HELP! band help

Postby tepesridge on Mon Sep 22, 2008 6:41 am

Hi, I recently adopted (rescued) an older Goffin. The girl said she was 2 yrs old. She has an open band on her leg. The band has HCO 927. From what I've gathered it appears she's wild caught? right? She was brought into the states through Hawaii and quarantined in California. Does anyone know how to track her band number? Plus, if she was imported she can't be 2, when did they stop importing Goffins? I'd really like to track this down, if anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Pam

P.S. if you'd prefer to email me privately, it's tepesridge@sbcglobal.net

An open leg band does not guarantee a wild caught bird. I've recently seen about 4 or so conures, jendays and suns, who have rounded leg bands and they came from a breeder! Import bands are suppose to be open, round with 3 letters and 3 numbers. Breeder bands are suppose to be closed, square and have any combo of numbers, letters, and logos.

If your breeder is listed, you could find him here...

LegBandNumbers : Leg Band Numbers (I see you've already asked here)

A couple places that produce leg bands may or may not help trace the band if it's one of theirs...

If indeed your goffin is an import, she'd be 16+ years old. Did you get the info from the group about the band maker? Have you tried getting a hold of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, someone perhaps from Hawaii? May not be much but you may be able to get a tad bit more info... USDA - APHIS - Import
