Struggling with tough decision 'bout my Too...

Postby J*Angelskiss on Thu Jun 28, 2007 10:22 pm

 Have been dealing with multiple lifestyle restrictions once my back injury took over finances, etc... Have been absolutely torn up about needing to find a "new" - yet committed home for him, or a "foster" -type of temporary home until back on feet financially again... He's about 3 & 1/2 yr. old Umbrella, very playful, cuddly, name is Angel. Does anyone out there have any suggestions...? He's a sweetheart & I've been trying to find a solution that is best for him & don't know if that has to mean giving him up for good to somebody who may be better suited for his needs- or if there's an alternative? Please give suggestions if they are positive, have been guilt-tripping on this decision for the last year. Has come to decision- time.... Thanks for any thoughtful suggestions. Jules

It's really hard to give up a pet and I feel for you! I don't know exactly what your situation is but I have seen other ad's for people wanting a temporary home for their dogs/cats ect. Do you have any friends or family who can take him for a while? My only fear with a stanger is 1....they fall in love and don't want to give hime back OR they sell him because of noise ect. Maybe you could make up a contract or something.

If you've been comlemplating this for a year and he is doing good maybe you really are the best home for him. Maybe friends or family can help you and you can keep him. Sometimes the best thing to help you when you are down is a animal friend. Of course I am just thinking...I have no idea what your situation is like.

I guess I dont have any real help but my feeling is if you are giving it this much thought you care alot and will make the best possible decision for your baby.

Such a hard decision.....sometimes I think we put too much pressure on ourselves to be the best homes anywhere...and the birds are happy...just knowing they are loved...I know my guys dont' get all of the attention they are used to....had a few family emergencies that took me out of town this year...but they are all still loving, sweet guys....maybe we could offer some money saving food tips...I know these guys have to have plenty of good ideas...For toys...when I'm in a pinch...or just lazy....I have Stainless Steel little buckets in most of my cages..just hanging from a SS link...and I cut untreated wood into chunks and fill the buckets..they don't care that they aren't colored or anything...I'll hide an almost in the bottom...or drill a hole and stick an almond in it..and they spend time getting to their treat and chewing the wood....Good luck....

There is a bird rescue organization in my area that helps for permanent or temporary re-homing. Check in your area to see if there's something like that available.
Love 'em all.

Toys are so expensive. I do the same with the wood. Mike will cut some shapes and I'll string them on rope and hang 'em in Annie's cage. She doesn't seem to care if they're colored or not. She just wants to chew them.
Slave to Twinkie-Dink, Pebbles and Annie. Goddess to Sassafrass (dog) and equal to Rambo (pig).
