trick training

Postby bostonbudgie on Sat May 12, 2007 10:14 am

Has anybody done any trick training with their 'too? I have a video but i think I need to see how it is done is person. A bird shop that is 30 miles away will be hosting these kinds of workshops. I think it would be fun and a great way to interact with a 'too.
I know just with my budgies they love to pick buttons out of a little cup and toss them
thoughts?

training

Postby kriso on Sat May 12, 2007 10:26 am

I've not done any trick training with my U2, but my macaw seems more interested in it. I've done classic behavior modification, rewards for the behavior I'm trying to elicit. My B&G likes to play basketball, stacking rings, and can almost roller skate. He's not quite sure about those skates, but he's getting there. I've heard clicker training works well too. I've not tried it personally, but I've heard from others that swear by it.

I got a book on clicker training and I've read it thru once and started reading again...........I want to be sure of things before I start. I have a SHORT time off in June and I think I'll start then..........Then I have 9 days off in July and I'll go heavy during that time. I potty trained Annie (my G2) last year when I was on vacation and, whoda thought, my Sun Conure Pebbles was watching and picked it up. So now she's pretty well potty trained. That makes life SO much nicer. I really didn't like getting pooped on!

This 'too that I will be adopting is also potty trained. I have to "train" myself to pick up on her figgeting behavior that she has to poop.
I think trick training of picking up blocks, throwing basketballs etc..will be fun for the both of us.
Kriso, you have a macaw that can roller skate? how funny is that!
