I KNOW how fast you can fall in love with a Too! Like I've said before, and others here have heard me say, Toos put a spell on you. It's called the Cockatoo VooDoo, and YOU have been HAD! Ha! Ha! Ha!

Given the fact that this Too is calling for you as you arrive, and you do indeed go right over to her to visit, play, remove her from her cage, shows me one thing....the training has begun. She is already training you, and you don't even know it. Toos will demand your attention all day long, and if they don't get it, they just turn up the volume a little louder until they get the result they desire. Spoilt little brats, they are! And, it's sooooo easy to spoil them! The little loves!

It's hard to say if you are ready for a Too, unless you have already lived with a Too, and KNOW what they are like. It's like trying to describe what it's like to have a newborn baby to expecting parents. They just won't 'get it' until they experience it. Unfortunately, that's when it's too late and we find these Toos in rescues, and being rehomed over an over again.

Often times, these big toos do not like children. Sometimes, children get toos wound up too tight, I've seen a too lunge at a child's face before. Have you seen the damage a too can do? Be real careful with the kids around the too.

PLEASE, please, think with your head and not your heart. PLEASE BE SURE your household is the perfect one for this Too.

Thinking of a too

Postby Cheryl Hitter on Mon Apr 23, 2007 8:31 am

Oh, Cami....
You are just so right on the money about these wonderful fluffy white manipulators... :o Your advice has been so valuble to me...
When Winter came to my house last Oct. he came with a very endearing call "Mama come 'ere ..." ohhh how cute is that I thought and of course what else would you do when your baby calls you like that....????I ran right in to see him.. But then when I didn't appear he turned up the volume...louder and a little louder and then it was MMMAAAAMAAAAA COME HEEERRRE !!!!! Hmm I thought... this could be a problem..... and I returned to his cage when he became quiet... He still trys that technique.. but he's modified it LOTS...and he's found it doesn't work... We need to remember to pay attention to our birds when they're being good.... ~~~ Reward positive behaviour.....ignore negative behaviour.....
Cami, you just keep the information coming.. !!!! The newbies to 'toos depend on you !

toos noise

Postby bostonbudgie on Mon Apr 23, 2007 9:53 am

My husband comes with me to visit kiwi. It's mutual decision since we both live in the house. He is pretty good about taking care of the birds (my tiels & budgies) when I can not. Ive asked him repeatedly if he is "OK with taking Kiwi home". kiwi is noisy at expected times i.e. when we arrive home from being out somewhere, at morning & evening.

Well, It has all been great advise. There is no doubt my daughters and I would pour buckets of love and attention on this creature. We are three females with a maturnal yearning for cuddling. This too is very cuddly.
It breaks my heart knowing she is in a pet store, subject to the affections of the store clerks. I could provide a very loving, safe and comfortable home.
There are no obstacles, financial or otherwise. I won't buy her because I would fall in love and would never consider rehoming her. My tag is noisy enough in the mornings. She is full of "spit and vinegar". Chirpy and happy.

The bird store that I shop at- worked for has had babies grow up and stay due to not finding right bird person. They wont sell to just anyone. Owner doesnt care if she has to keep them all, which she has done a few. These are all well cared for and always handled and loved upon. I know someplaces kinda shove them aside, and thats sad.

everyone has good advice

Postby bostonbudgie on Tue Apr 24, 2007 7:14 am

Thanks again everyone with ALL your advice. Caveats of noise, spouses, impulse purchases, mess etc.. are issues that certainly have to be addressed.
Keep your thoughts and comments coming.:-)

Why is my head spinning? Oh, Okay! I've got it now....there are TWO people posting in this thread about getting a too.....lauriekeith, and bostonbudgie.....(sounds like a bird and a wild flower, doesn't it? You know....Rainbow lauriekeiths?! - never mind! Ha! Ha! Ha!)

From what I can surmise, bostonbudgie should go get her Too, and lauriekeith should stay out of the pet shops, she's got bird fever and can't be held responsible for her actions! (I'm just teasing)

She stepped up on my hand which the owner was shocked she was so bold and comfortable with me that she would do this.(She generally steps out of her cage onto a play stand if she wants to come out of her cage. She hasn't even done that in close to a year)
So it looks like mid may I will take her home. I am both nervous and excited.

Bostonbudgie, sometimes, a Too picks a person. If the person is set for such a relationship, you can't go wrong there! Hold on tight, cuz you are in for the ride of your life! Congratulations! I'm excited, and nervous for you! Keep us updated, and let us know how it goes in the middle of May.
