As long as your birds do not have a direct cold draft on them, they will be fine. That's what they have that down for. And if you are still worried, get those AviTech heating panels. Those are great. I use mine for Zazu after her bath because she is like a lump on a log and trust me, my apartment gets very cold because it is over the entrance and no insulation in the floor.

Ok, I've calmed down. I still worry cuz Annie just doesn't seem to have much down. Pebbles and Twinkie do but Annie is kinda bare. I think she must pull it out. I'll just cover the sides and back (she's close to a window but not next toor in front of it, and we have good windows).
Thank you.

Gloria, I glad you have calmed down, I knew someone in the group could explain everything better and give better advise when I sent you the E-mail. I knew you had said you covered the cages and I was worried, too. Peggy

Sleepy time

Postby nicky56gizmo on Fri Feb 16, 2007 10:54 am

Hi,

My Parrot Gizzy loves to sleep in my room with me. He will not sleep in his large cage in my living room!! I have a small cage which he sleeps ontop of right next to my bed, during the night if he gets scared or lonely he jumps onto my pillow for kisses. Birds are flock animals, and I belive they should roost with their human flock!!

Im an early to bed person, so my bird gets all the sleep he needs, sometimes he takes a nap in the day too.

All birds are different, you should listen to their specific needs, but I think personally that they should be with their human companions as much as possible!! :D

All our birds are family pets first, that happen to also breed. I have spoken to several vets and bird people who have been doing this 50+ years...there is NO one naswer to any bird situation. Every bird is differant, I was told that breeder birds would never tame...well we have a White Front Amazon male who although he hates me loves my hubby and btw...just fathered a clutch IN my living room, the hen is wild caught and I was told wild will not sit on eggs unless isolated away from other birds and people...this hen you can't spook off a nest, she's calm and not mean will move if asked to and will go right back to clutch. I was told tame birds that you give a bird friend to will abandon you and bond to the other bird...we have two greys who are bonded very very well to one another and still seek out our interaction and attentions. I was told "This bird sceams all the time for no reason and just won't stop...take him before I kill him"..the bird came to my house and still has never screamed for any reason...I was told you can't put two strange birds together until months and months have passed of them sitting next to one another in seperate cages...I've had birds together in as little as two days and not had a single problem. I've had pairs come here that were pairs for others and produced clutchs for years and then came here and decided they want to be single pets ...You just never can tell. Although I don't use sleep cages and just use covers it works for my birds, it may not work for your birds it may not work for the next bird I bring into our home. And If I get anymore birds I may grow feathers and sit on a clutch myself...lol
