Looking to re-home pair of cockatoos. Please help

Postby Lizzy277 on Thu Jan 11, 2007 8:34 pm

I bought these birds to rescue them from a home they were not cherished or loved. The male was very plucked by the female and both birds were drinking dirty water in a bowl left on the bottom of their cage. They also had no toys and were eating a very poor diet of pizza rolls and low grade conure food.

I am looking for someone who will take care of them as they deserve to be. The male, Frisbee, is now slightly plucked on the legs and neck from the female, Fiona. She has been letting his feathers grow back since I started giving the both of them toys and other things to chew on. Fiona has always had beautiful feathers, and now Frisbee is looking pretty too. They are both very nice birds; niether have ever bit me. Frisbee enjoys being petted, but Fiona is a little shy. Frisbee likes to talk a lot, and Fiona will occasionally pipe in too. They are currently eating Pretty Bird and whatever fruit I have in the house.

I cannot give these birds away. I am asking for $1500 which is $300 less than I paid for them.

If interested please call me at 952.944.2132. I will not ship these two. I am located out of the Twin Cities, MN and would be willing to meet within reason.

Thanks,
Liz

Update

Postby Lizzy277 on Mon Jan 15, 2007 7:06 pm

Fiona seems to be getting over her shyness factor. I always assumed Frisbee was the only one to talk when people were around, but yesterday as I was watching the birds in the bird room play, she started talking to me. At first I thought Frisbee sounded a little off key as his voice seemed a bit high for his usual tenor, but it was Fiona sitting on the perch saying "Hi." Very cool.

Frisbee has developed a fascination with the newspaper. He followed me around the entire room to play with the Sunday paper. I noticed him eyeing me up from inside his cage, so I let him out and he immediatly ran down the side of the cage to start ducking and popping out from underneath the paper. I made a few "paper tents" and he had a blast.

it makes me so sad....

Postby bostonbudgie on Tue Jun 05, 2007 6:54 am

I get soo sad when I see birds like this....
I know people's lifestyles change but it is just horrid to see birds out & out neglected.
I know my friend is overworked and can not spend much time with his 'too. As you might recall I almost adopted her but she terrorized my other birds. So I offered to frequently visit her for 'play time" (even though he lives an hour away each way )I figured since I can't keep her in my home I could visit her so she could get some one on one. Her cage is very clean with nice food so she just needs one on one attention.I've been refurbishing her toys as well.Argh... I wish I could do more!
Keep up the good work in finding these special birds forever (loving) homes!

It's great that you do that for the other bird, though. Sometimes we can't take them all in...or at least most of us can't, but we can still help. My Olivia DuCawcus, Scarlet Macaw, is getting a new cage today...so her big cage will go to Lacey, cockatoo...and Lacey's cage is going to a man that has a Moluccan in a very small cage...I see it on my way to work...and offered it to him...I'll pack it with toys when we deliver it...sometimes, a small step even helps out...

Thanks...Millie's cage is not in the best shape...it's an old King's 406...about 12 years old.....Millie was a Moluccan and had broken several welds on it...but I do think it will be a step up for this bird....

awwwww!

Postby bostonbudgie on Tue Jun 05, 2007 5:44 pm

What a cute pic. That poor bird was probably dying for attention.
One of my tiels was a rescue bird. The cage was disgusting. She was eatting out of soggy, moldy cardboard boxes. no toys. Scared $%^& of men especially young men. She even hated her (old) name.Maybe when they called her "beverly" she felt it meant torment.I think from having a poor diet her eye sight isn't great.
She is a sweet bird and loves to cuddle. My tiels & budgies are treated like kings & queens. They ALL get spoiled!
Those poor cockatoos. I'm glad they are getting the attention they deserve...

They are very sweet and in time will gain weight- and hopefully they will know this is home. I never cried so much as with these 2 and Mickey our B&G rescue- what dispicable people and I pray karma comes back on them 10 fold.

Cyndie,
I agree with Paca (I think that's who it is). Your doing MUCH more than a small step. Sometimes people get the bird and forget that cages cost a small fortune. For you to give a cage that's in decent shape is very nice.

Ahhh Thanks...I had it in my mind to do for a good while...just needed to save up enough to get Olivia a SS cage...She is a Scarlet that I got from Cathy T. but a water worshiper....loves to spray her bottle all over the place.....so I worked a bunch of OT last year....and so I can pass it on to my birds...and pay it forward a little to help someone elses...

Cyndie, I want to hear how Olivia likes her new cage, too! And what you can see at that garage when that guy's bird gets it's new cage.
