Singing Cockatoo

Postby rpavlis on Thu Dec 07, 2006 5:59 pm

One of the strangest thing that Wendell does from time to time is he tries to sing. Today on PRI they were playing Frank Sinatra. He immediately burst into his version of song. He is most definitely NOT a beautiful singer, but he tries!

I wonder if other cockatoos try this!

That is so wierd. My eclectus does that almost every morning and it is always Frank Sinatra tunes. It is hilarious. I have never heard of anyone else's bird doing this & get the wierdest looks when I tell someone.
I am owned by Lucky the Eclectus, George & Bender the Goffins, Daisy the White Capped Pionus, Abby, Baby, King & Girdy the Cockatiels & Heckle, Jeckle & Star the Lovebirds. I also have 5 dogs, 2 human children & a husband. We have a very full house.

They do. They're aweful singers but they love to sing & chatter away to themselves.

Versace will sing Old McDonald...of course only his mother knows that he is doing that. But, you can distinctly hear when he gets to the part "quack quack here and a quack quack there", and he will dance by moving side to side and up and down. His voice does have the beat. It is very funny but cute.

I haven't exposed him to Frankie yet!

Leigha is my only singing cockatoo...but not to a particular song...Wendell must think he's a greybird...Must be something about Franks' voice that makes them think they can sing....Around here at this time of year it's Christmas music...and it's fun to watch the different reactions to the different songs...I think the all time favorite of the birds is Aaron Neville's...Louisiana Christmas Morn....lots of heads bopping to that one...

I love singing cockatoos! Casper has also sung and when the room is screaming he will often stop if I sing and sing away while the others continue to yell. Over the years he's actually improved! so don't give up on Wendell, lol! He also enjoys our player piano...but then again he grew up sitting on my shoulder when I used to play. Now my mom is here and he breaks into song when she plays. Also Winnie U2 and Mackie U2 sing. When I'm at the Foundation several male U2's sing for me as well ;-) I love it! Doesn't get much better than that.

hug and MERRY XMAS!

Bhakti sings..... all the time.
he uses every word he knows and definitely holds his notes.....

I was a Prof. singer prior to my hearing going down the toilet and there is still alot of music in the house.... loud music but music none the less and as soon as I start singing he joins right in.... he has definite musical tastes....which I can't quite figure out.... and there are some things that just arent worth listening to as he makes his displeasure quite clear.... but as long as it is something bhakti likes... he is fun to listen to ....
