Umbrella Cockatoos Help!!!!

Postby jippypop on Wed Feb 11, 2009 9:37 pm

I have a recently paired set of u2s. This is their first time ever being paired. The male is a wild caught breeder, and the female is a wild caught hand tame pet, never bred. I know they have done the deed as they did it within 2 minutes of being introduced. LOL! The female has dropped one egg on the floor in front of the nestbox. It appears that she was trying to get in the box and did not make it. The next egg she dropped on the floor under the perch. Now I know statisticly the eggs should be infertle but I was hoping she would at least get the chance to sit on them. Generally both stay in the nest box. Will she continue to drop them on the floor or will she figure it out? How many more will she lose or is she done for the year? She dropped them this week. Any help would be great. Thanks!!!

It's possible that she will lay a couple of eggs every 2 weeks or so, unless she lays in the nest and incubates.
Laying eggs, and laying them in the nest are 2 separate actions, so successful incubation might take some time.
Mating behavior is the female's attempt to keep the male from directing aggression onto her. Apparently, it works !
