cockatiel diaper

Postby Chris on Sun Feb 01, 2009 10:54 am

has anyone used this on their bird :?: It is like a flight suit but it has a cotton disk in it to catch the poopies from the bird. we are going camping in March for a week and I want to be able to take Chip outside with Me and don't want to be wearing poop all the time 8) I was wondering if it is hard to get the bird useto wearing something like this also :?: Iwant to be able to work with Chip with the diaper now if it is something useful. :D
Thanks,
Chris and Chip

FYI flight suits for smaller birds are the birdie diapers.

Flight suits can be useful, but if you are camping, it is safer to leave your bird at home with a bird sitter. Unless you are camping in an RV, there will be animals that can get into the cage, birds that will leave their droppings (and diseases) in the cage, not to mention the stress of being outside all the time with no temprature control.

As much as I love my birds, I do not take them camping. I leave them with my mother (an 8 hour drive away) so I know they are safe.

If you want a flight suit for outside when you are home, try it out there first. I found that the leash/lanyard portion is too heavy for tiels. I do have one for my oldest tiel, but he also cannot fly any more, so the weight of the lanyard is minimal for him. Fot the other birds, I use a harness and an old shirt.

We are going in Our Rv and I just thought that taking Him with us would be okay. some one told me to get the diaper. What is a harness :?: I would not be taking Him outside and leaving him out there. He would only go out when it is warm and with Me. If I need to get a birdsitter I will. I don't want anything to happen to Him. thank You for answering. I sure am new to all of this stuff :D
    Thanks again,
    Chris and Chip

Yikes...I would not let my birds outside just wearing a flight suit. A hawk could swoop down or he could get loose and it's bye bye birdy....

A harness is a series of straps that attach to a leash that will keep them from flying away if the get spooked and you are holding the leash. Here is a link for the company I go through. http://www.fredbird.net/

BB - A flight suit has a leash component, lanyard style that would not allow the bird much past your shoulder.

Either way you decide to go, order it now and start working with it. Your bird may not accept a harness or flight suit, keep that in mind.

Remember that any mosquito repelling products you may use camping will be toxic to your bird, so make sure that you wash well before touching him or his items. Make sure to have the phone number of emergency vets in the area you will be camping at so if the unthinkable happens you know who to call.

I'm glad to hear that he will be in an RV, tent camping with a bird is just too dangerous! Remember to lock the door when you put him in the harness or flight suit so he doesn't escape when someone comes inside and he isn't leashed up yet.

I had (have) a flight suit for Button. For some reason Button managed to get out of it ( know I didn't put it on her properly so I am just giving the "heads up" that this could happen)

Mosquitos don't spread Avian Flu, but they DO spread West Nile Virus as well as parisites.
