my good birdies!

Postby mytielwoody on Sat Jan 24, 2009 10:45 pm

After having the two other birds I have really come to appreciate what good birds Woody and Boss are! Today we had a bad day.....Pip at it again and he bit Ivy's foot when she landed on his cage. He bit her toe nail right off. She is doing well and I had tried calling the vet, but they were closed and I spoke with a vet at the emergency ER and he told me that as long as her bleeding was under control, there wasn't much more they could do at this point for her, and to bring her in Monday to get it looked at, so we'll be off to the vet Monday, but she is doing quite well and no signs of bleeding now for some time and the foot is looking better tonight.
While all of this chaos is going on, I had to stay with Ivy to make sure she didn't pick at it......she kept picking at it, but I stayed right with her the rest of the day and stopped her from doing that. She was on top of Woody and Boss's cage and I was standing on top of a chair leaning against their cage just watching Ivy. Next thing ya know, here comes Woody, he climbed right up to the top of the cage and right to me and started singing to me! He's such a sweet little thing! when I got back up on the chair again, both Woody and Boss came to me this time and started nibbling on my shirt through the cage bars as my arm rested on top of their cage......they made me smile at time when I was stressed and not too happy! These two are just so undemanding and sweet as can be......my good birds! that is what I call them! The other two cause so much chaos sometimes and are very demanding. Woody and Boss are just happy, contented birds! I almost wonder if they somehow sensed that something was up......Woody doesn't usually sing to me! He does sing to my boyfriend alot though. It's really great that these two, even though they have each other, still seem to love us just as much! My good birdies!

In my limited experience I find animals do sense things. Some animals are more intune with other's feeling more than others (people are like that too). I find when I am having a migraine attack there is this one dog I walk that is usually hyper will "chill out" and actually turn around to check on me when I walk her. This has happened numerous times so it isn't just a one time-did-she-really-know situation. Eddie (my little fav tiel) will curl up to me also when I am sick.
That Pip sounds like a little brat....poor Ivy!

Poor Ivy, how is she doing now?? Pip is a naughty, naughty girl she is so aggressive for such a little thing.. I always remember that Christmas picture you posted once with Boss & Woody on one side all close and Pip sitting on the total opposite side all alone looking at them all alone, innocent and cute and I felt so bad for her lol.. That little girl totally fooled me..

Woody & Boss sure do sound like good babies.. So sweet and calm.. I too believe that they can feel or sense when something is wrong or worrying us.. I know that when I am crying Rosie will kiss my tears away..

Awwww, tiels really are the sweetest birds of them all I think! I only notice it more when I compare them to other birds. Ivy is doing well, still holding her foot up alot, so she's still feeling some discomfort. I am going to get her in to the vet tomorrow to get it checked out and for a wing clip. Pip is a boy, by the way! At least we think he's a boy. He really doesn't ever do anything like this to be mean......he's just a lovie and this is what lovies do and I just have to be more careful. Ivy will get a wing clip and Pip's top of his cage will be covered with something from now on so that no more toes are bitten. Ivy has landed on Pip's cage a million times before and I really never thought that Pip would ever get her feet this bad......he is nippy, but he's always gentle and has never broken the skin with us either. He is just inconsistent.....he'll be really good for a long time and then Boom! out of the blue he'll do something like this. I can't believe that he would bite so hard to bite off her toe nail......Ivy's feet are a pretty good size! Now if it was Woody or Boss with smaller feet, I wouldn't be so surprised...they never land on Pip's cage though and pretty much stay away from him. This is just the way of the lovebird......very bold, mischeivous, and not scared of anything! foot nipping is a fun game! as is chewing holes in my shirts! My friend Lin fosters rescues birds and she told me that she had a parrotlet that lived with a lovebird before coming to her and he had no toe nails left!
Pip and Ivy are still good friends and spend time together......as long as her feet aren't on the other side of cage bars, they are safe.

Oops sorry about calling Pip a girl.. I am sure that he is a sweet Baby he is so cute and innocent looking. I think also that sometimes birds get "ancias" I don't know what the word is in english but it's kinda like when they can't help themselves they get so excited that they almost can't contain themselves. You know how when your birdies are just so darn cute you can't help but just wanna squeeze them? Kinda like that. Poor Ivy, I hope her foot gets better soon.. Give her snuggles from Rosie and I..
