How is Stella doing now? Is she eating on her own yet? Has she stopped making that cricket noise?

She stopped sounding like a cricket - too bad it was very cute.

Her weight is down in the 70's again. I made her some scrambled eggs with broccoli, carrots, collard greens and pellets and she really likes it - and she likes the honey seed treat and millet. I'm off on Sunday and Monday so I'll be able to do more with her with food

The cage is still and issue. She will go in to eat a little as long as the door is open. If I try to put her in, she just walks back up my arm to avoid being in there. I had added a ladder to the cage for a welcome home toy and thought maybe she didn't like the new toy - I took the ladder out and she STILL doesn't go in!! She'll go in to her sleep cage with little fussing - it's the day cage she has a problem with!!

I've been reading through the cockatiel cottage website and haven't found anything useful yet

This little girl sounds like Rosie, Rosie is NEVER in her cage in the day, the minute we get up for the day we open the cage door and shes free all day long. The ONLY time she goes in her cage with the door closed is to sleep at night and in the day the only time she is in her cage is when she is acting silly and goes in for 5 minutes tops and only if I am in the room with her, if Momma is home Rosie will only eat if I hold her with one hand and her plate with the other hand and if I am not holding her, her plate has to either be next to me or on my lap. If her plate/bowl is more than a couple inches away from me she will go to it, get out a seed, pellet, or bite of food, carry it in her mouth and sit on my leg and eat it there, when shes done she will go back to her bowl bring another bite over to my leg and eat it and so on. So I just make it easy for her and hold it for her. When I was at work and grandma baby sits her she will eat in her house with no problem but she still is not locked in her cage but if Momma is home she will NOT eat at all unless I am holding her or right by her side.

I know this thread is about Stella, Just telling you that she sounds (not as extreem as Rosie) but alot like Rosie is.. I'm glad she liked the scrambled eggs, hopefully you can get her to gain some weight soon.

When babies are going through the weaning stage (eating on their own) they sometimes lose weight. It is promising that she is eating healthy foods.Has she fledged (can she fly?) they lose weight during this stage because they expend alot of energy trying to fly

RM - thanks for letting me know about Rosie, I want to know what other people do with their bird since my only experience is with Luna. Luna was out of her cage most of the day but there were times when I had to keep her in with the door closed. She would fuss for a minute or 2 but would settle down and relax. Sometimes she would leave us and go home (her cage) on her own. I would share food with her outside the cage but most of it was in the cage. She would climb all over it - inside and out and she would get down on her own to come visit me or hubby when she wanted. Her door was open unless we left the house or if we were busy and couldn't have her with either of us.

Stella is a bit more needy. She is clipped and does try to fly a bit (mostly straight up like a high hop - but she is able to go a few feet to get to a table) I tried putting her in the cage in the morning and again the pacing started and wouldn't stop. A few hours later I put her on one of the high perches near a toy and she stayed and played with the toy for a few minutes, I didn't close the door - didn't want to push it. So, hopefully she will get re-accustomed to her day cage soon.

Food - she loves the scrambled eggs!! She is eating, but she eats so slow I think she uses more energy to eat then she takes in lol.

I guess I'll just keep going the way we are and see how she does over time.

That is good that she is not making that cricket noise that means her lungs are clear.
I think Stella thinks you are another bird so she doesn't want to go in the cage because you won't go in the cage.

Maybe I'll change my name to Big Bird!

I tried pushing it a bit with the cage and closed the door after I put her on the perch and she started to play - lasted about 10 sec - and then the pacing - I think I have a long row to hoe ahead
