I've seen Galahs behave in the same way repeatedly. It's one of the few things about Australia that I don't like. Fairly often I find a Galah that has been hit by a car and killed with it's mate standing next to it just waiting. I always stop and move the dead bird away from the road so that it's mate doesn't end up getting killed as well. I always cry. The worst though was a few years ago when I watched a Galah valliantly defending it's dead mate from a raptor. That imagine is stuck with me forever!
