Weird New Habit

Postby Rosies Mommy on Sun Jan 11, 2009 7:19 pm

I have always put a plain white bounty paper napkin on the bottom of Rosie's toy box and she leaves it there.. Well about a week ago she pulled it out and started chewing on it. She won't swallow or eat it but she will chew on it and she will shred it to pieces. And all the time she sees a napkin now she does that for some reason. She will sit there forever like if it's a pacifier or something. I don't know why she suddenly started doing this :?:

Oh Eddie does that too with napkins. She makes a MESS doing that. i think it is a nest building thing they do.
BTW yesterday I was singing to Eddie she lifted her 'bootie", tucked her head under her wing looking at me like a flirt! She has never done that before! I do not want to encourage this behavior. Weird...

Charlie (mitred conure) *LOVES* to shred toilet paper and paper towels! We do have a bunch of napkins which I didn't even think of using! (but then again we *never* have napkins). With him I don't think it has anything to do with nesting, however due to his beak injury he can't destroy anything except for soft stuff like that. We have a cat who loves TP as well, so when he got to one of the rolls, I took it from him and gave it to Charlie! And Charlie had a blast destroying it!

For a tiel though, well it could be more nesting than play, but tiels love to chew, too!

Yeah Rosie is a shredder and a half she will shred anything she can get her little beak on but with the napkins as well as shredding she like chews on it. It reminds me of a baby sucking on a pacifier lol..

OMG That is sooo cute that Eddie done that. I know it's not something to encourage but how can you not think that is just the cutest little thing.. Rosie had her booty in the air day b4 yesterday too yikes.

Oh and I always have napkins with me everywhere because I am after my baby picking up her poopies as she goes along. And I put them on the bottom of her toy box so that she don't stand on the cold plastic alone with nothing over it.. (I know I am weird) lol

You are not weird at all! :D I carry napkins/tissues with me as well since I let my birds out and I make sure I pick up their wayward droppings. I place an old cloth pillow case on their plastic sliders as well so they don't have to step on cold plastic plus it is easy to clean by tossing it in the washer.

You sound like me. I have towels down on our couches allll the time so that the couches don't get dirty if she poops on them and also it's easier to keep her on a clean surface by just washing the towels since obviously I am not gonna have the couches cleaned/shampoo'd every other day. Plus I am afraid of cleaning product scents. The towels don't look great but oh well I rather keep her cleaner that way..

What are sliders?

Sliders are the plastic trays in the cages and birdy play pens.
