Male tiels' mating song

Postby Claudia on Mon Jan 05, 2009 10:44 pm

Got a question
my three babies are now 4 months old and very loud
I find when they are really "singing" they all seem to have a very similar song.
Their song is also very similar to Noah's (dad) song.
Do you guys find that as well or do you get completely different concerts depending on the bird :D

I would think that each bird sings his own song, BUT he may tend to immitate that of his brothers or father. Woody has a few different songs he sings, and will sometimes just blare out one single note over and over! Here is Woody singing his song to his girl Boss!

I've cared for a total of 3 male cockatiels. Two of them being related. I still have one.

The first, Clyde. He's a whiteface split cinnamon pearl pied. He had *THE* most gorgeous song you would have ever heard! I really do miss his song! Had him for 6 months before finding him a place where I knew he'd be happier.

The next two would be Pistachio and his son Kirby. Their song which is quite similar isn't nearly as gorgeous as Clydes was. I might have a video of Kirby singing (at least in the background) but I don't think I have one of Clyde or Pistachio. Regardless, Kirby found a new home as I felt he stressed out his family too much. Pistachio doesn't really sing much, and being that I can't whistle, it can be hard to get him going!!!

Regardless of all that, I have noticed that birds can have accents just like humans. I noticed it most when I had a few budgies, and had gotten another one from around Sacramento, CA. For the most part, all the budgies sounded the same. However, this new little guy sounded completely different! So different in fact that I could always tell it was him when he was chirping vs the other budgies. However, given time, he learned to speak just like them! So I couldn't really tell him apart anymore...
