Posole

Postby Rosies Mommy on Wed Dec 24, 2008 12:19 pm

So tonight when we are having posole with the family I was wondering if it would be ok to give Rosie a posole kernel?

Posole recipes vary and some include avocado and salt, which our birds shouldn't eat. How is yours made? What would a kernel be?

Regardless whether Rosie gets any, I hope you thoroughly enjoy yours!

We make ours pretty simple.. With Red Chile and pork and of course salt.. And it's the homemade posole that you boil for hours not the premade can posole (yuck)... Then after you serve your own bowl we put cilantro and lemon juice in it. But it's only cooked with the red chile and pork.

It is sooo yummy!! To bad your not in NM you could come have some with us :).. She wouldn't get the pork I was just gonna take a few kernels of the posole out and let her have them. The only meat she has taken a liking to is chicken, turkey and tuna :).

It is yummy, you should try it meatless :).. Rosie was not impressed with it, she took a bite or two of it and thats it. She was more into the Tamales but I only let her have a couple of bites of that. And then this crazy little girl was more into the actual stocking than the gifts that were inside it but then she discovered the little balsa wood toy in there and went crazy with it :)..

ha ha! Rosie is funny! She is like a little kid :D
Rosie likes tamales? What is a tamale? Is it like a taco? I assume it must be spicy.
People here on the NE coast have lobsters and steamers for Christmas. It is actually pretty disgusting. I can't even watch people eat them.gag :x It is like eating a big huge red spider and the steamers...(gross) I will spare you on what I think those must taste like :x

Rosie is the silliest little Girl I know.. She brings so much joy to us and makes us laugh daily cuz shes so silly..

She did like the tamales. Tamales are so good ok well basically the way they are made is you get a wet corn husk and you spread the masa (dough) on the corn husk, then you put the meat mixture (either shredded pork with red chile or chicken with green chile- we use the red and pork) you then wrap the corn husk with the masa around the meat mixture, tie it and you steam it for a long time till it's all cooked. They are so yummy. Mmmm, I want one now lol. Rosie is a little Latina she loves all our spanish food :D ..

I don't think I ever heard of steamers, what are they. I know one time we went out to eat and my cousin ordered a big lobster and my Mom got all grossed out and said it looked like he had a big ol animal on his plate and she couldn't even eat lol. What I have never tried that looks gross to me is I think they are muscles those slimmy things that people like suck out of a shell. :| All that slime sliding down my throat ack! lol

That is so funny how Rosie likes tamales :D they sound yummy.I really liked the food in Mexico when I was there in July. I am perfectly happy having a simple menu of rice and beans. BTW Eddie & Button LOVE rice!
Steamers are steamed Quahogs. Quahogs are big clams. I am in "clam county" where harvesting clams is a way of life here. People steam them and dip them in butter. Although the seagulls enjoy a leftover clam laying on the beach (or marsh) it is something that our birdies could get really sick from. They are really gross

Ugh those don't sound to good to me either. Some seafood scares me lol. Rosie loves spanish rice the one made with tomatoe sauce. She used to attack brown rice and bulgar wheat before we discovered that new mix (Lil Friends). Now shes so addicted to that stuff that if I make her rice or bulgar wheat she turns her nose up at it. So as excited as I was that I found her something new that she likes I was not happy that it has turned her against her rice and bulgar wheat.

How are the birdies doing? I hope they didn't get to scared with the fireworks and gun shots at midnight last night. I hope Rosie didn't either I wasn't home so I don't know if there were alot of them here..

No fireworks or loud noises here except for snowplows. We got hit with a nasty snowstorm new years eve and now we got a wicked freeze -12F (-24C) As you know, I pet sit for a living. The dogs hate this weather. I just had to "rescue' one of my bunny customers who was outside in a shed. His water froze to a solid block. I had to hike in knee deep snow to get him.It totally *&^%s!
Part of my left index finger turned black (frost bite)
Some of the locals partook in the polar bear swim freeze. They strip off in to bathing suits and run like mad into the ocean.People were slipping and falling on the ice. The salt water would freeze as it rolled to the shore. The water temp was about 37F (1C) and air temp was -12F.We are INSANE here!
I have the fireplace on in my house so the birdies are nice and warm. I check the outside vent continually to make sure the snow drifts don't cover it making CO a problem. The birdies like to look out the window as if to scoff at the poor birds outside.

Yeah in the Netherlands (Holland), where I'm from originally, they also do what they call the "New Year's dive" where people have a quick dip in the North Sea
At least my New Year's dive was on a 37 degree (Celsius) day
