Christmas presents for our spoiled birds

Postby bostonbudgie on Sat Dec 20, 2008 3:36 pm

How many of you buy/make christmas presents for your birds? :D
(I know Rosie's mom does! :D )
I figured this was a good time to refurbish the birdy toys since it is snowy, cold and dark.
Tiels love toys made of (drinking) straws, wicker balls and tiny plastic chains. I bought my supplies from www.dancingparrot.com and www.birdnerds.com
Button loves those cajeput perches!

I don't give Christmas presents to the birds, but I do give them new toys quite often!

I purchased from Grey Feather recently. I got the wooden spoons, plastic beads, leather and rope, wood stars, wood wedges, and Chinese finger traps to make the new toys. I string 6+ finger traps on the leather (with wood blocks and stars at the ends), and stuff the finger traps with nutriberries. This way they have to work for their treats!

I LOVE Grey Feather :D Vet care and Wall St losses have me so poor that I too buy mostly toy parts and make my own. Using Grey Feathers' stainless steel chains is such a wonderfully safe alternative to cheapie toys elsewhere that I'm always congratulating myself for knowing those good people  http://www.greyfeathertoys.com/cgi-bin/ ... iliate_id=

Here are the parts I used, minus the rope and leather.

Spoon

Chew Tubes

And YES, I give these to my tiels! My rescue, Ash is quite the chewer and will eventually destroy the spoon, this is his second one. My hen loves the chew tubes.

How cool, I bet they love them!! I am still waiting on Rosie's stuff I ordered for her on the 8th or 9th. I was so excited to get it and now I am worried that it won't even reach me since the last time it was tracked was the 11th and it still has not reached me and no further activity on the tracking :x..

You should post pics of the toys you made. I would love to see them

I agree, I would contact the vendor and the shipping company. The items should have been there by now.

Here are some photos of the toys I made. I did make one other that I didn't give the base to. It is pretty small.

Spoon toy #2 on the couch

Spoon toy #1 after the tiels have had it for a week. You can see the older blue wood spoon that Ash has been chewing on and my boy Ash on the far left.

By the way, if you guys are wondering about the blanket, we have had some really cold weather in Southern California and this cage sits in an inset window. The blanket is to keep the chill off of the tiels.

That came out cute. I can't believe that they have destroyed the other spoon that much lol. They must enjoy it very much.

I ordered from that site that you told me about BB www.parrotoys.com and yes, I let them know about the missing order on Thursday because I had a pkg mailed to me on the 13th which was saturday and I got it on Tuesday so of course when I seen that I was alarmed so I emailed them. All they said/did was send me the tracking info (sent via usps) and said that I am not the only one with a missing order ..

Mine love those chinese finger traps too! What a great idea stuffing them with nutriberries. I am going to take some pics of the toys I made so my next post I will (hopefully) be able to show you some of the toys I've made with straws. :D

Cool, can't wait to see them. I would love to get ideas with straws. Rosie loves straws so what I do is I buy the cocktail or coffee straws in different colors and cut them in half and just put them in her toyboxes and her play gyms and she plays with them that way. She likes to hold them with her foot and bite on them or throw them off her playgyms and watch them fall to the floor..

My friend Chris at ParroToys just sent me this message:

Yes, the PO seems to have lost them. I am overnighting her a replacement order first thing in the morning. I'm just waiting for her to confirm her address before printing out the postage label. Thanks!

Chris is wonderful, so Rosie will have her new toys in time :D

I get Ivy's foot toys from that site also Rosie's mom and they always arrive in like two days! so yeah I think something must have happened, or a mistake made somehow.

I finally got Rosie's order.. yeayyy!!!

Those toys are so cute!! I love the little scarecrow looking girl. Those little chains with balls on them I have purchased made already and Rosie loves them within a matter of 20-30 minutes (IF THAT) she has all the balls off the chain lol..

I wish I was talented enough to make Rosie her own toys.
