But probably not as bad as your birdies would have felt if they had to raise another clutch so soon :!:

I had to boil eggs to stop my original tiels from laying, but I was terrified Bonnie would lay until she killed herself. She just wouldn't quit, and it was a last resort. I tried taking the box and she just layed in the bottom of the cage. She was very VERY determined.

Putting them in a smaller cage finally stopped her, after she sat on the boiled eggs for about a week. Is there any reason you can't pull the babies and hand feed them? They look old enough, and the box would be removable?

It's MUCH too soon for the health of any of the tiels involved.

I am not confident and experienced enough for handfeeding and also do not have enough time for 6 babies :)
gosh all I see Meg and Noah do all day is feed

All seems to be going well though, 2 more bubs to go and they have been popping their little cute faces through the hole so shouldn't be much longer.
Hopefully Meggie stops laying straight away :?
2 babies are eating seed now and saw one eating broccoli today yayyyy :D

Hi Claudia,

Your scenario sounds soo familiar! That is about the same deal that Missy did to me.. laying more eggs before the first clutch had all fledged and were staying out of the nest for the most part. I can't recall how many eggs she laid before the last two chicks had fledged, but I want to say 3, but could be only 2. I did boil the first 2 eggs, but after seeing the color change and putting them back in the box, I just decided to wait it out and then pull the box. I know Smokey was exhausted from the constant feeding more or less on his own, as Missy was acting like "I've done my job by laying the eggs, now you raise them". I knew if they had another clutch of chicks, it would really have been too much on Smokey. Anyhow, if you can hold out without her laying a full clutch, as soon as you can, yank the nestbox and eggs and toss them. She might lay a couple more eggs, but toss them also. It will stop soon after. I know that does not help the situation, but at least you and the parents won't have to deal with the stress of another clutch.

Claudia,

It may be just "funsex"... just don't give them any thing that resembles a nest!
