I would love a pied cockatiel too! :D
Lucllie & Linus had lutinos and normals. No pieds! They picked on the lutinos so I had to hand feed them. The lutinos are pretty but a little bit retarded and seem to be prone to medical issues.
I love seeing the photos of the babies :)

well if Christie is right and Noah is not split for whiteface then you would get this

Mother:Whiteface Pearl Split To Pied
Father:Grey Split To Pied

male offspring:
25% Pied Split To Whiteface {X2: Pearl}
25% Grey Split To Whiteface {X2: Pearl}
50% Grey Split To Pied Whiteface {X2: Pearl}

female offspring:
25% Pied Split To Whiteface
25% Grey Split To Whiteface
50% Grey Split To Pied Whiteface

which kinda makes more sense as I now have two babies with yellow crests! :D
The last teeneeweenie bub has just started to show his crest colour today, and it was yellow YESSSSS :lol:
So out of 6 babies 4 greys and 2 pieds is more logical when you look at the above calculation, correct?

Oh yeah another question, is it possible to visually sex a pied???
It isn't is it?

And when the babies fledge, do they completely stay out of the nest box or do they go back in at night time for a little while???
I want to take the nest box out asap cause I do not want another clutch, this one was so big I feel one clutch will do for this year :?

Is it possible to visually sex a pied? Yes and no! It's not possible to visually sex them via facial feathers as some hens will have clear faces (like my Casey) and some males will have dirty faces. However, it should still be possible to sex them by wing and flight feathers, so long as they have grey flights and tail feathers! Just look at Tomi Girl's feathers, and you can see the female markings! (of course this works best with birds who have gone through their first to second molts)

Image

However, you should be able to get a pretty good idea of the offsprings sex as they age and mature. Males will most likely be more vocal where-as females will most likely be quieter... simply put, just compare them with their parents!

Just because you didn't get a whiteface doesn't mean that Noah *ISN'T* split! It suggests that he may not be, but it's not definite until probably the 2nd or 3rd clutches! If you don't get a whiteface by then, then you can probably say that he's not split! But you never know!

Chicks will either come out of the nestbox, or they'll remain near and possibly go inside, because that is their 'safety blanket', so to speak.

we've got 1 very curious little baby who keeps on poking it's head out of the nest hole :lol:
Bit young to be coming out I reckon but so cute to see it's little face poking out :D
Noah flew over to him today and gave him a peck and baby went back down again so obviously dad has decided he is too young to be leaving home :lol:
Saffron is really feathering up now, he looks lovely, he has got a light grey chest and light yellow feathers are starting to appear left right and centre, beautiful :)
The baby (who has now been named Mango :wink: ) is getting more and more feathers by the day too so will be interesting to see how these two pieds are going to turn out.

Hi Claudia,

Have you noticed any particular difference in the chicks when you handle them, like some being more "cuddly" or maybe even aggressive? With both clutches here, I could get a positive reinforcement from 2 of the chicks when I would weigh them, that being Suzie and Chirp. At first, I thought Chirp was a hen, but turned out not. Lil'bit also gave me some positive reinforcement, sorta like they were comfortable with me holding and handling them. I did NOT get that from the rest, and Patches to this day will not get on my hand. He'll light on me sometimes, but never will get where I could hold him. Maybe it's just my senses, but I do believe there was some kind of connection between us :)

Hi Sam, well I do have one in particular I like to cuddle a lot, Saffron, the biggest bird, the pied baby.
But today I discovered (look under "Surprise!!!") that I have a pearl baby too!!!
When I picked that one up it was squawking so much hahahaha
Saffron is now quite big and was trying to balance on my hand but was still a bit wobbly though :lol:
