Bad, bad birdies

Postby chibi-tori on Fri Sep 19, 2008 10:59 am

Emi went in the bird room this morning to open the curtains only to be greeted by a huge area that the brats had chewed the paint and paper off the drywall, plus started chewing a hole in the gypsum! Maybe I should teach them how to hang drywall and finishe it :)

Oh what little brats! how the heck did they get up there and do that?!?! I know if i place the cage too close to archway into their room they will climb on their cages and chew the wood work. They have done that with frames as well.

BB, they can reach the wall where they chewed from the curtain rod which is an 1-5/8 dowel for the curtains. It's just another one of those thing which we learn you can't do with birds, but have to figure a way to stop the destruction. Curtain and rod is back up, but I gotta repaint the area where I put the joint compound on, then, hopefully, they will leave that area alone. I had to put CD's (coasters) glued to the ceiling where each one of the hooks that holds the chains that support their toys because Patches had started chewing the paper off the ceiling around the hooks.. only way I knew to stop them was to put something up they could not chew through.

    What wicked little boogers!
I do my best to "bird" proof my house from damage from naughty behavior but.......somehow, just when you think you've out smarted them they will "surprise" you.
Eddie has decided that my teacup shelf makes a nice "nest". I find myself constainly cleaning areas in my house that most people would not even think of because I will find "mystery turds" in obscure areas of the house i.e. teacups, ceiling fans, on top of frames, on top of window sills, etc... It is like a "treasure" hunt.

I had a budgie that found a nail hole behind a picture frame--I had changed the height of the picture when I hung it. It was in the corner of the room & blocked by the front door when I opened it. One day I saw her coming out from behind the frame & wondered what she was doing back there. She was sitting on the wire that held the picture & EANTING THE HOUSE! She had gone through the plaster, the dry wall, and was working on the house itself! There was a hole that I could put my fist into. I pulled the drapes back & there on the floor was a pile of plaster, drywall, and sawdust! A BUDGIE! And I was a renter :( (And, obviously, not a very efficient housekeeper.) Lucky for me the owner was planning to panel the room when I moved out so he didn't charge me for the damage. My little termite
