Oh No!

Postby Rosies Mommy on Sun Aug 17, 2008 8:14 pm

I was giving Rosie her meds just a few minutes ago and she moved her head and being the stupid a$$ that I am I squirted it right into her eye.. I had a towel with me so I wiped it right away. But I put some in my eye and it did sting :(. Rosie is so much smaller than I am and so much more delicate.. Should I call her Dr?? Ugh, I feel like I do everything wrong with her . My poor Baby I didn't mean to

They probably won't get back to you until tomorrow. As long as you rinsed it well with water she should be okay.

These things happen. Don't beat yourself up ((( Rosie's mom ))) She's probably asleep by now. Unless she's still acting bothered, I wouldn't stress her rinsing with water.

I didn't rinse it with water. I just wiped it with the towel. She was all worked up and upset about taking the med thats why she moved her head. The older she gets the more stubborn she is about taking her meds. I feel horrible about it. I hate giving her the meds cuz she gets so upset and I don't like her to be upset. She wasn't holding her eye closed or anything.. Should I go check her in a few hours??

Awwww, you know they sure put a good fight when it comes to meds! I just got done giving my lovie Pip meds and what a job that was! Not a fun job! I'm sure you are doing your best, and I have found that it takes a couple of days to learn the best way to get those meds in there! Pip was aweful, he would run off and shake his head and try to shake it out of his mouth! I'm glad that his meds are over with now......those ten days seem to last forever!

If she's sleeping I'd bet she is all right. Isn't it amazing how strong these little guys are? Lucky for me, my current Lovie loves her meds--lucky because she gets them twise a day, probably for the rest of her life. With her, the hard part is getting the syringe out of her mouth--she grabs it with her beak & tries to get every drop out. My last Lovie was a different story. I had to hide the syringe until I had a good grip on him, try to pry his beak open with my thumb & stick the syringe in with the other hand. Then, just when I had the syringe in the proper place, he'd push it out with his tongue before I could push the plunger! That was some strong tongue. When I had to give him a pink medicine twice a day for SEVEN weeks the vet told me he called the procedure "Paint the parrot pink". What we don't do for our babies :) But I agree, don't beat yourself up. Just as parents of human kids, we do the best we can. No one can ask more. And if she didn't like the sting, maybe she'll learn to hold still. Or not....

Thank you everyone. It is hard and I used to be able to get her meds down pretty easily but now that shes older she puts up a big fight. I have been having to get her with a towel and I hold her with my left hand feet against my chest and then with my right hand I put the syringe in the side of her mouth and as soon as I feel that I can get it in the little opening I squirt. I think shes just stubborn too because she loves oranges and this med is tangerine flavored so she is just being a little stubborn girl maybe it's the whole process that she hates. I wish I had the problem of her sucking every last drop out of the syringe (thats such a cute story). THey are strong too when we have a little tug of war fight Rosie always wins :).. I hope and pray that her little eye is ok tomorrow.

Oh my gosh.....Pip did that same exact thing! He would push it out with his tongue..... this must be a lovie technique that they pass on to each other.....want to avoid meds?? just push it out with your tongue! that's funny!

I did read that article twice. I didn't see anything about the stinky poopies but I did see where they are more watery.. Ewwwie, did you see about the egg yolk stroke? Yikes!!!

I thought of Button there was this little area where they said that I think "harrisons" has a booklet information sheet about feather picking. Have you downloaded it yet?

Poor Button, you got meds in her eye too? I thought I was the only one who would make that mistake. I feel better knowing that I am not the only one.

I did download the info from Harrison's. it was quite informative. I am giving Button some organic flax seeds (mostly because of her scale less feet)
the Article in Bird Talk said the dropping are more "malodorous"(which means=smelly)
