In the October 08 Bird talk magazine on pg. 47 talks about droppings during a hormonal state for cockatiels.
"These droppings are often much more malodorous and loose than normal droppings, most likely from the feces being retained in the cloaca for a longer period of time. These droppings produced by a brooding hens are NOT abnormal, in the strict sense of the word, since this is a normal behavior to hold droppings while sitting ona nest. A fecal gram's stain of these droppings might show a greater total number of bacteria, and perhaps a slightly greater percentage of gram negative rods, as well".
This was a good article to read about hormonal tiels!

That IS good information. I'll read Dr Wissman's article today. Thanks! Just to be really clear though, the bacteria she's describing are different from the yeast Rosie's vet found. Here's info from another article: "Yeasts are small, single-celled plants. They are members of the family fungi (singular, fungus), which also includes mushrooms. Fungi differ from other plants in that they have no chlorophyl. Bacteria thrive on many different types of food. But most yeasts can live only on sugars and starches. From these, they produce carbon dioxide gas and alcohol. (http://www.healthgoods.com/Education/nu ... _molds.htm)" Good thing Rosie's mom took her to the vet right away! Hard to know when stinky is sick vs just hormonal

Oh I agree with you 100% bluebird in regards to the yeast and getting it treated. The same has happened to my tiels as well regarding yeast and I have had them treated. As always, if something doesn't look well with your tiel it is best to have a vet check them because when they get really sick then often it is too late....

Christie, I have only had a yeast infection once and I didn't notice myself wanting anything sweet, I was so miserable I felt like I was gonna throw up all the time from the discomfort.

I haven't called her Dr, I haven't been on in a couple of days my stupid comcast is always out lately so I didn't see the suggestion to call her Dr till today. But I have only given her corn once since then.

Rosie is eating good but she has been sleeping ALOT the last few days.. I am hoping that it's just that shes molting? You think?

Thanks everyone once again.

She actually is molting too.. She has tons of those little pin feathers coming in around her head and neck. And I mean TONS.

Today she did have a better day. it's now time for medicine, ugh I dread this part of the night.
