Um, this ever happen to any of you?

Dealing with the joys of having a female bird... she laid an egg, when I found it, they had put a small hole in it, so I felt it was unnecessary to remove it, as it wasn't gunna hatch if there was a hole in the shell. So, I left it in there last night, just to see what they would do with it... the enlarged the hole and ate out the white and yolk!, and then tossed the shell out of the cage! Ummmm.... yah... wht is going on with the birds? lol.

MANY times! I consider myself lucky when they get rid of it themselves -- and are healthier for having eaten it

Hi Jackie,

Yep.. when Missy laid her first egg, it hit the bottom grate in the cage and cracked, but the membrane held tight. I put the box on the cage and put the egg in there, and Smokey immediately started incubating. I looked at it the next morning, and the membrane had perforated and the yolk and white were oozing out of the shell. Later that day, I came back and looked, and the egg, shell and contents were nowhere to be found. They ate the egg and regained the calcium in the shell! They are smart critters sometimes :)
