Julie, where are you in Ohio? I have a very good vet in the Cleveland as well as in the Toledo area.

Julie,

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your baby. I can certainly feel for you, as the same thing happened to Chikara when he was about 7or 8 weeks old. He hit the patio door so hard it sounded like a 22 cal. pistol or rifle shot. He did survive for a while, but he had so much neurological damage, he was never stable on his feet, but could still fly with the rest of them. A short time after we got him back from the vet, he somehow managed to fall between the china cabinet and the wall. While he was not physically injured that we could tell, he was lodged in there for over 2 hours, and the stress of being trapped caused him to die later that night. It's a very sad thing to think a life was so unnecessarily taken.

As for clipping, I'm glad you've decided not to clip them. During their flight training, they learn to navigate, land without crashing, and it lets them build the confidence to fly without hitting things. I am a very strong advocate of not clipping any birds wings regardless of age, and tho I've lost two birds to the outside, getting one back, I still don't clip, but we are extremely careful about going in and out of the house when the kids are on the lose. Since Chikara's accident, there have not been any more wall or window strikes that are deadly, however during a panic, some still fly into the picture window between the bird room and the kitchen expansion. They just don't have much in the way of logic when panicked about something.
