Just need reassurance (weaning, long)

Hi Becky,

Great story - Glad you decided to rescue that baby!

I am sure there are experienced hand feeders who will weigh in on this, but here is my story...

When I got Kura, he was only 4 weeks old, I hand fed him (nervously), and he took ages to wean. I cut him to 2 feedings a day at 9 1/2 weeks (!), but I was scared to do anything too fast. Trouble was, he would pick at stuff, but I never saw him eat. I tried cutting him to one feeding a day at at 10 weeks, but he lost weight and I got nervous again.

Know what finally did the trick? Cous cous! The very first time I offered it to him, he gobbled it up like he was starving (believe me, he was NOT starving :D ). The next day I mixed cooked cous cous with some softened pellets, and he ate them. He was weaned 3 days later.

He probably would have weaned sooner if I had offered him the cous cous earlier.

He is now 2 years old, talking and whistling like crazy, and a real sweetie!

Kathy
