Cage Wire

Postby sweetrsue on Tue Jun 17, 2008 6:44 pm

Hi Again,
The cage wire I ordered for my Aviary has been back ordered and won't be in again for 3 months. I've had a bad experience with 1"x1" wire. I had a cockatiel put his head out one hole then back in the hole above it. He was stuck. I had to cut wire to free him. I found 3/8" black heavy PVC hex netting but I wonder if they will just chew it? has anyone tried it? the other thing I wondered about is 1" x 2" wire. I don't think they would get stuck but could they escape through this opening? Don't want to wait 3 months for the other wire. Any suggestions?

You might want to consider looking elsewhere for the type of wire your interested in... you should get no larger than 1/2" x ? (1/2" - 1" - etc?)

Here's a couple places that are recommended....
    http://www.twpinc.com/
    http://www.sierrawireandsteel.com/index ... _wire.html

You could easily google "aviary wire" or "aviary netting" or something along those lines... there are plenty of places that sell wire!

The bird who got his head stuck was fine. No ill effects at all. Luckily he didn't batter himself trying to get free. As for googling Aviary wire....I have googled my talefeathers off it took days to find the wire. It was TWP that has the wire I wanted backordered. I have looked at Sierra, I'll take a second look at thier roll wire
    Thanks
