I haven't heard of blue eyed albinos, however, I have heard of blue eyed lutinos... Albino is just one step further than lutino, so I can't say I'm surprised to hear about it, either (although I bet that makes for one gorgeous bird!) I'm not sure anyone knows what causes blue eyes, but I'd bet it's much like albino humans who can have violet, blue, pink, or red eyes. Is it rare? Quite possibly, but if not rare, it's quite uncommon.

Here's pictures of Blue Eyed Lutino's that other people own

http://i286.photobhttp://i286.photobuck ... 0283_1.jpg Heres pictures of my Albino the one she is really dirty!! I have only had her for 2 months, She took a mud bath in the guys Aviary the night before I got her!! She has red eyes when I take a picture with the flash on!! But she has blue eyes like the Lutinos above. I read that sometimes albino tiels have blue eyes, so i guess its not rare just uncommon!! She is camera shy too, so I try not to take to many pictures, it scares her. She was a Aviary bird and very shy and skitish, but withing 2 or 3 weeks she was fully tame and now she gets up on my finger. Her name is Ivory and she is 2 years old, I don't know if shes split for anything, but I guess I will find out when I breed her.

    Melissia,

That is one gorgeous birdie! I love those blue eyes (kinda like mine :) )

Did you notice the upturned talon on one of the pics (I think the 2nd pic) Looks like maybe a genetic fault or something besides injury.

Sam, I don't see an upturned talon, just one foot behind the other, the feet look normal to me.

    By the way, cute baby!!!

    Greetings everybody!

I was googling links to my sites etc and found this topic. The first pictures of a blue eyed lutino are actually pictures of one of my cockatiels that passed away some years ago. This bird was a lutino cock called Seraph. He also clearly carried cinnamon. Seraph came from Sweden but when I was tracking the breeder, the importer said that he didn't remember where Seraph came from. Propably even from Denmark. Seraph passed away because of some sort of digestive problems.

After this amazingly beautiful bird I've been searching the answer to the question without proper answer. What I can tell you is that it certainly is a family thing. When I visited a german breeder we suddenly noticed that he has among his 300 cockatiels a breeding line of lutinos that contained like ten blue or grey eyed lutinos. Their eyes weren't as bright as Seraph had but they still didn't have red eye. And they were all lutinos. - Some people say that blue eyed lutinos would be actually clear pieds. But the breeder confirmed those birds as lutinos. They are not that rare, people just don't realize to look for them. What I can also tell is that they are actually born with red eyes but the eye color is changed during the first months.

Here are some more pictures, enjoy! (And next time you can follow the link in the picture and ask questions from the person with the copyrights. ;) )

If the copyrights are an issue, I can remove the IMG tags. The pictures are, of course, yours! (and they are from your website, and from another forum you posted them on - pictures were not saved and re-apploaded)

In regards to blue eyed lutinos... from what I've heard, this is due to the pied gene. That is, lutinos that do not carry the red eyes may also be pieds. (not all) There's a post about it from a cockatiel breeder below... (will need an account to view the pics, though... which Ida, you do have one!)

No problem, as the (c) mark is there. Just thought mainly that I could have given you even more photos and perhaps the info. Yeah, I posted those when trying to find information. :)

Thank you for the tip, I'll go and see! (And perhaps I should go to the introduction section, too. )
