I also have a male and female that mate ALL the time! and no eggs! Seriously----if you make and effort and TRY to discourage egg laying-----I really think you will have a good chance of preventing it----I am proof of that! I move their cage and try to move things around in cage----take them outside, change their environment as much and as often as you can-----this also is good for them as it keeps them used to change and they won't freak out from changes and cockatiels usually hate change! Mine sings all happy when I take him to the vet! Also----keeping them sleeping longer hours, especially this time of year, will help-----keep the room darker longer in the morning if you can and cage covered----mine sleep in the am for me really well!
I totally freaked out when I first found out Boss was a girl! and they started mating----now---I am not worried at all, and if eggs do come----boiling them is not cruel! There are no babies developing yet if you boil them soon after they are layed-----you may hate this idea and think birds are being killed-----but do you know how many baby birds die when being raised? You risk that with babies, where an actual cute little baby bird has problems and dies-----wouldn't you rather boil the egg BEFORE the baby is even present???

From what I've read and heard, if you let them nest and have a clutch, forget about taming since they aren't already.

You have to decide what you want for these birds and yourself. Do you want to interact and have a personal relationship with them? Do want a pet to cuddle with and interact with? Then do NOT let them have a clutch!!!

Why did you get a male and female in the first place? Did you got them as a bonded pair and the breeder forgot to give you the nest box.

Also, you are not the one who will be financing the breeding - you've mentioned your father bought them for you and you don't have extra money for a good vet. You also mentioned he doesn't want to separate them and have another cage to clean - what will happen if you let them have chicks?

Everyone on this chat board has given you excellent advise and recommendations. Here's another - if you are not old enough to care for yourself, then do not bring more life into the world - human or other animal. It is serious, not just cute little babies to love.

One last thing, I think they were cheap because they are older then the breeder told you. I bet they are well into their teens and beyond good chick producing for a breeders purpose.
