Worried Again

Postby Rosies Mommy on Sat Apr 19, 2008 12:47 pm

I'm so worried about Rosie today. She cried (peeped) for about 2 hour straight and I don't know why or what I could do for her. The only thing that is or has been different is that last night I let her stay up an hour later and today she got up an hour earlier. Usually she goes to bed at 8 and gets up between 9 & 10. Last night she went to bed at 9 and got up at 8 this morning. I hope shes ok and that nothing is hurting her. Finally we put her in the living room on her house and left her in there alone to see if she went to sleep and maybe that was it. She slept for 15-20 minutes and then she started calling us again. I have her with me now shes sitting on my shoulder. I hope shes ok.

Could be the time of year (breeding season) plus giving her that extra bit of light (staying up later than usual). Eddie was doing the same thing-peeping & "looking "for something. I know it is egg producing time.
As always, keep an eye on Rosie. We all know our bird's usual behavior/habits but I think it is really because of the time of year and light adjustment

Well you know earlier in the morning when I was holding her and she was eating an avi-cake she put her little booty up in the air and started doing that cute little chirp. So I put her towards her house and told her to go home (cuz I don't want to encourage it) and she stopped it right away. I wonder if thats what it is.. Hmmmm.. Sounds like huh? My Baby :(

Bingo!
She is clearly hormonal. She is flirting with you. What a naughty little girl

How is Rosie doing? :)
My Eddie is doing the same thing. She is all "nesty" and grouchy.

Casey is also very hormonal! She's been finding ways to masturbate, and I can't stop her! If I remove whatever it is she is masturbating with, she'll just find something else!!! Got to say, I let her to it! She usually doesn't lay eggs less she finds a suitable place to lay 'em... and if she finds a place to lay eggs, I remove THAT and she usually stops laying then! She likes to sit inside food dishes (among other places) and pass out in them sometimes...
PG-13 Cockatiel
All I can say is that it's quite normal! And Casey being my only handraised cockatiel, is the only one who does it! (Well, as far as cockatiels go.... Smurf - parent raised budgie, and Charlie - handraised mitred conure, also like to masterbate with toys...)

Can't really say there is much you CAN do, or that you'd WANT to do, so best to NOT do anything, for fear of making things worse! You can surely try and get her out of the behavior, with more hours to sleep, changing around the cage, moving the cage, changing her diet, etc.... However, she may be like Casey and not be affected by any of that!

OMG..my male budgies constainly do 'teenage boy' things to their perches & swings. It is so embarassing when I have guests over and they ask 'what is your parakeet doing?"
My female lutino cockatiel will sit under a swing toy and push it so it rubs her back. That is the only time I've seen a female doing anything "self gratifying." I had thought only males do it

Rosie is doing better thanks for asking. I guess it is that hormonal stage she is going thru. It seems like this week she hasn't been doing it cuz she does it earlier in the day around 11ish and I'm at work at that time so she hasn't been doing it. Maybe it passed already and only lasted a couple of days? I hope so. She is such a good girl tho, she will shred anything she can get her little beak on tho.
