Ya know, the older we get, the faster time goes by. Chibi has been gone now for over a month, and Shelly has been here almost a month. As for size, she's not overly large, and weighs in at 85 grams. She's comparable in size to the last clutch of chicks with the exception of Daisy, who is a whopper at 101 grams! She seems to be adapting quite well, and will mix with the other kids sometimes, unlike Cappy who is a total recluse. She won't mix with any of the others, and usually stays perched on a brace of a table beside my chair, or on the back of the couch, or on a shelf under an end table. Shelly has such a weird personality tho, and while she comes and goes more or less as she wants to, if we leave the room and leave her in the den, it's not long before she finds us and comes to wherever we are, and with me, it's in the cave. She won't let you touch her, but it's OK if she lands on YOU

She's warming up a bit tho, and I suspect she'll be hand-able before too much longer. I do need to get her to the vet's office for a well birdie checkup, but have been procrastinating. I also need to take Smokey in for a deformed feather removal on his left wing. I don't know what happened to that particular follicle, but it's never produced a good feather. It always comes out all gnarled and misshapen, and it does not grow more than an inch long. I know when it starts bothering him, as he'll cry out at times and I see him trying to stretch his wing, but that is apparently when it hurts him.
Q. Have any of you ever read or heard anything about "killing" a defective follicle to prevent any feather from growing in? I need to ask about that when I take him in, and since it won't grow a good feather, I suppose it'd be better just to not have one at all.
