mother nature took over :)

Postby julie3512 on Sat Mar 29, 2008 10:07 pm

hi everyone....i found my female,CoCo on the bottom of the flight cage...i thought she was sick at first....then i noticed as she moved that an egg was under her....lol...little stinker i was trying to prevent eggs and it seems mother nature has other ideas...and CoCo hasnt paired up with any males but i have been told that since there are males in the flight cage the eggs may be fertile...so i am going to put a nesting box on and wait and see what happens....and be there for CoCo if she needs me...but she has done this before and the eggs were not fertile

Julie,

If you really don't want chicks, don't give Coco a nestbox. She might not lay any more eggs if you don't provide one. OTOH, if you want chicks, give her a box and let her lay out. Yes, it's impossible to force mother nature to abide by our wishes :)

Sam,
hi, i was just not wanting them at this point with all my heatlh issues. I have breeder close by that is willing to help if for some reason i cant, but i am feeling so much better. I gave her the box, like i said she did this before and the eggs were infertile. so i am just going to let nature take its course, i know that if the eggs hatch, the babies will have good homes i have family and friends wanting tiels.

hi all quick question, CoCo now has 4 eggs under her and seems to be doing the 24/7 sitting and only comes out to briefly eat and drink and back in. question being none of the males have joined her. if the eggs are fertile can CoCo raise the babies on her own and will the eggs hatch if they are fertile?

It sounds to me as if the eggs are probably infertile if she doesn't have a male to help her.... but in the likely chance that they ARE fertile, as long as she sits on them frequently but doesn't starve herself, yes, the eggs can hatch and and she could raise them on her own... however, the males, if hearing the chirp of little chicks, may be interested in helping to raise the chicks, too....

sounds infertile

Sounds like they are infertile. Just from my experience if they were possibly fertile, beleive me, the male would be hanging around big time. Males are very active in baby raising :o
