paranoid..did I do something wrong?

Postby bostonbudgie on Sat Mar 29, 2008 8:39 am

March 1st I went to a new vet for a check up for Button. I liked her and she found that Button had a raging yeast infection that could be a contributing factor to her feather picking. She was to be on the meds for 21 days. I started running out of the meds at day 13. I called the office and asked if I could get more meds becaue she wasn't finished with her prescribed time. the office said they would call me back plus I sent them a email of her diet etc... for analyzes. No call. Now I am out of meds, I finally got the office and they said to come up and get the meds and that they would call later that monday to review the email and what would go on next. No call. I waited a few days and called again. they were too busy but they would call me thursday. Still no call. I called friday and said they would call me on monday to see how she was doing. no call again. I waited, again and called on thursday. they said they would call me later that day. Still no call. I called on the following monday (again) and left a message. no call. I called on friday because now it has been 30 days since my initial visit if I could schedule at least a consult to see what to do next because she was still picking and losing wieght.
still no call.
help....
I do not understand...
I pay my bill, I am at my appointments on time, I leave polite messages at the times I will be home so we don't play phone tag, I do what the doctor says, I make detailed notes on my birds health history so there is no guessing games....
I just need to vent because I am so frustrated and as you know, it is hard to find avian vets!

I would find another vet. They are too busy for you. My vet has answered an emergency call at 11:30 PM.When I found another vet I would call the first one and tell them you wont be back and why. Get a copy of your birds records so your new vet knows what shes dealing with. You sound like an ideal patient with a not so ideal vet.------Yogi

My best advice is go directly to the vet's... nevermind the phone, just pick up and go there if it is important. I know she may be a distance away (I think I remember you saying so), but if you need to pick up more meds, you will have to drive there anyway. if you show up at the office, they are more likely to help you--they can't put you off if you are right in front of their faces (in a nice way of course). At the same time, be willing to wait if they have people to help--you don't have an appointment, and they do--so it takes some balance.

good luck.

I think I'd find another vet also. That kind of behavior is so rude.. and telling someone they would call you, then never call is enough to make your blood boil. I don't remember what the meds were, but you *might* be able to take the bottle to your local pharmacy and have them fill it, after explaining the circumstances, and they might even be able to call the vet and get authorization for a refill. Stopping meds in the middle of a treatment is not good at all, especially for something like a yeast infection.

I did show up at the vet

Postby bostonbudgie on Sun Mar 30, 2008 8:53 am

I did show up at the vet for the rest of the meds at day 14 when I ran out. It is now day 30 and she is done but the vet office has not called back after my numerous calls for a follow up. Button looks terrible and I had emphasized that on the phone.
I am running out of vets within a 70 mile radius...

Thats horrible I can not believe that they would do that to you.. What a rotten way to run a business and obviously they have no real compassion or concern for thier patients.. I'm so sorry.

My Dr don't always call me back but if she can't she will at least give her tech or the front desk girl a message and have her call me back with the info.

Why did you leave your original dr?

original doctor

Postby bostonbudgie on Mon Mar 31, 2008 7:29 am

I had a great original doctor but I moved 70 miles up north.
There was a vet within walking distance but they all left and decided not to do birds again. Another vet (25 miles away)I went to that supposely does birds was terrible. Rap music was blasting, the girls at the desk were in their own little world, I felt the vets had little experience and it was so obscenely expensive. The 3 budgies I brought there came back in a box. enough said....
This doctor seemed great but, as you know, she fell off the radar.....
Maybe too busy....
