Hi Sam - so sorry to hear of Chibi's unfortunate escape
My prayers go out to him for a safe return to his family.
Keep your faith up (and your eyes when outside!) and don't forget to bring one of the kids with you when you go looking - a nice noisy male would probably be a good choice.

Chibi

Postby Diego's Mom, Lisa on Fri Feb 29, 2008 10:51 am

Sam - My heart is breaking right now. When one of our feather family is missing, we all hurt. Hopefully all our prayers are helping. We know it has worked before.

Casper and I send our love!

Many thanks to everyone for your support and prayers. No sightings as of today, but hopefully Chibi is enjoying the nice weather we've had. I keep hoping the phone will ring and someone has found him, or at least sighted him, but it's just not happened.

lost

Postby bostonbudgie on Sun Mar 02, 2008 8:41 am

I get so sad when I hear of these stories. When Whook excaped I called animal control. he was out for 4 days in the freezing cold and snow but he was found 1 1/2 mile down the street. We walked around the neighbor singing his favorite song hoping he would hear us (we must of sounded like nuts but I didn't care)....

man if Curi was to ever get out there would be no getting him back since he doesn't really Humans or is really attach to me, yet. I have his wings clipped right now but I will keep him that way till I feel he is really loving towards me, then I let them grow out.

My birds, even as attached as they are to me, would be gone, even Tweety with 20 years with me.

NEVER trust that the bird's bond to you will bring them back in an escape situation.

Christie, I have to disagree with you here... Bubba escaped once while he was on his harness and leash and we were on a walk outside. After laps arount my street, he disappeared into the woods... I looked for him frantically. He couldn't have landed the way his leash was... it would have been a crash landing. I was calling for him and calling for him, sobbing--the neighbors must have thought I was crazy too... But I eventually found him when I was calling, and he let out a cherp... I followed the cherp and kept calling until I heard another and found him-- tangled in some twigs and leaves on the ground. I don't think I would have seen him otherwise. If it wasn't for our bond, I don't think I would have found him--it brought me to him, but still.

The same thing happened when I raised an abandoned baby robin. We hand fed her and raised her until she was ready to be released. My sister insisted on being the one to release her--even though she was my responsability, but after my sister released Crusty into the back yard, I called her, by name, until her cherps led me to her, so I could say goodbye. Corny, maybe, but that is okay--a bond is a tool.

As for Sam, my prayers are still with you, Emi, and Chibi. Keep looking.

hugs,

Jackie

Jackie,

I'm glad that your bond did help you. I'm not saying that it won't help, I'm just saying don't trust that it always will either.

That is a wonderful and heartwarming story. Fingers are still crossed here that Chibi is safe in a home and that they will see the lost ad or a poster somewhere.

I don't think my bond would get my birds back to me if they got outside-----I think they might be too freaked out and afraid. Pip might though, but only because I know how to lure him anywhere! There is a couple of toys I could shake and he always comes flying over to it!
I've been thinking of you sam and chibi, and always wondering if chibi has made it home yet, and hope to hear good news. I sure hope he comes home soon!

No word / sighting / hearing of Chibi, and as days progress, the chances of his discovery diminish exponentially. At first, I had hopes he'd come wandering back and see me outside working on my workshop, or Emi working in the yard, but alas, it's been 2 weeks tomorrow, and while there have been recoveries beyond that, we are realists, and understand unless a birdie wants to be found and recovered, s(he) won't. Chibi was so happy with his freedom, he completely forgot all the good times he had while living with us and the love he received. I just hope he either found another person and has been saved or somehow has managed to survive the harsh weather that has occurred since his escape. Still, I have a glimmer of hope he will be found and reunited with us. The rest of the flock has not experienced any profound changes, however I do believe they know one of their members is no longer there.

Sam,

I know it must be hard, but try to stay positive... maybe this will sound familair...

"I am sure you will find her, or someone will find her and you two will be reunited soon. I just hope some kind soul will take her in and find the heart to return her to you.

Got my fingers crossed for you and Rosie

Sam" --6 days after Rosie flew away

Sam, Don't lose hope, please... keep trying, keep looking, keep hoping. Hopefully at this point he is in somone's home like Rosie was. Don't think he forgot about you--he was scared and he was in a panic.

-hugs,

Jackie

Aww! I'm so sorry! Pumpkin escaped this morning, so I know how you feel. I haven't seen her, either, so we both just gotta keep our hopes up and search to our own deaths. (Not kidding! I really AM searching till the death!) So, just keep praying as I will for Chibi and Pumpkin, and we'll soon find our littlw babies... I hope...

Escapee

Postby Diego's Mom, Lisa on Thu Mar 13, 2008 9:05 am

I was always so careful with Casper before, but now that all this is going on, I think I have become paranoid about the door. I am so worried that she will get out.

Living in Vegas, she would have a decent chance at surviving the weather, but the cars are another story.

We get bad winds here that could take her quite far. And Casper gets so tired easily when she is flying.

I say a little prayer that Chibi is ok. I just hate the thought of them being out there on their own. Freedom might seem wonderful at first, but nothing like the love of a parent. Not to mention a nice meal served up in a clean dish!!!
