If you could.... please.

Postby bubbabird85 on Wed Jun 13, 2007 7:37 pm

Today Bubba went to the vet to get his second blood draw. Tomorrow I will get his results. If you could, please keep my baby in your thoughts and prayers, I would really appreciate it. For those of you who may not remember, or are new here, a little more than a month ago, I was seriously worried about Bubba and got him to a vet ASAP.... it turned out is wasn't realy an "emergency", but we found out that Bubba was dealing with some liver problems... possibly liver disease or cancer (though no tumors were found on the x-rays)... whatever they test to check out liver function was 3X what it should have been in a normal bird. Bubba was put on a supplament to help, and this test will determine if the supplament has helped or not. The vet said that Bubba could never really be cured, but his illness can be managed if he responds to the meds. I know it sounds kinda silly with all of the horrible things happening in the world, but I am hoping for a miracle...

Thanks,

Jackie

Oh I am REALLY hoping for the best for you and bubba! I remember when you first found out the results of that blood test how upset you were, and I told you not to get upset until you know for sure that this can't be taken care of and bubba can get better. You did good jackie! Now I just hope that I was right, and bubba is doing better. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow and hoping to hear good news! Best of luck to you and bubba!

I will be thinking of Bubba and wish him the best. I understand how frustrating and upsetting it can be when your tiel is ill. Don't feel silly, cause when you love somebirdy so much you can't help but to be worried.

bubba

Postby bostonbudgie on Thu Jun 14, 2007 7:08 am

I have my St francis medal on. I wish the best for bubba.
My budgie Whook (my first bird) had the same issue. His chest was protruding. from a fatty liver tumor. What worked for him (althought every situation is different but I want to give you hope) NO salted popcorn, more veggies, more exercise and a drop of milk thistle in his food forever. His chest is flat and he is as healthy as ever.
Please keep us updated. BTW how is bubba feeling?

thanks guys, I really appreciate it. Again, it is good to have people who understand.

The vet said it was actually really strange, because you couldn't feel the enlarged liver in the physical exam. He acts perfectly normal, though it seems he has been eating less of his pellets than before I took him to the vet last month. Though he is still causing trouble, getting into everything, singing, talking, and of course, giving me plenty of kisses. He gets his milk thistle 2x each day, and he loves to do his laps around the living room. As for Saint Francis, he will be hearing from me too :D... Francis is the patron saint of animals :D

Bubba

Postby Diego's Mom, Lisa on Thu Jun 14, 2007 8:40 am

You know, I know what you mean about "all the things happening in the world". But Bubba is your world. We love our babies so much. Not to belittle anything that is going on in the world, but to us, when our babies are ill, the world could crumble and we wouldn't know it.

So, don't ever apologize for caring about your kids. I feel that animals make each of us better people. Consequently, that makes for a better world. Corny, maybe, but I believe it!

I think of Bubba all the time and hope he is ok. He is such a little trooper.

Thanks for the updates!!!!!

Hi Jackie. My Buddie had liver disease and it is manageable. Ask your vet about milk thistle and be sure to ask about ways to manage his diet. You are going to want to keep him away from any high fat foods such as sunflower seeds. I will say a prayer for Bubba tonight and we will all wait to hear what the vet says!!

No update yet. If vet doesn't call tomorrow, I will call him.

Rosie's mom: the blood test will show if the medicine is working and if he is responding to it, and how well... I am hoping really, really, really, really well (really x4 cuz his liver is 3x normal!)

Lisa: you put it into words perfectly. It is very comforting to have people who understand.

Noel: Bubba's medication is the milk thistle. He is also getting cod liver oil, and I am going to get him some dandilion root powder which is also supposed to help. As for the fatty foods, the doctor didn't discuss it... Bubba has lost 3 grams :( in the past month... not so sure why, and the doctor said that he wasn't overweight to begin with at 95 g. I don't think fatty liver is the problem

Thanks again all, for your help, concern, king words, and prayers.

Jackie, I got my fingers crossed for you and Bubba. From what you say about his behavior, at least it's not affecting his moods or physical activities and that is good.

Give him a hug for me and a little kiss..

thanks sam :) will do. Dr. said behavior will change when the disease progresses. I also asked him about the pain, and he said that was actually the good thing about liver disease--there is no pain. He said they just tend to get really lethargic, want to sleep all the time, stop talking and whistling. I am also visiting with my other vet today--the babies are going in for a check up, and I will ask him about it.

Please give chikara a kiss and scritch for me. how is our little warrior doing today?
