Postby Rosies Mommy on Wed May 23, 2007 8:20 pm

UGh it was awful.. It breaks my heart just talking about it.. I hate myself I am such a horrible Mommy.. She is walking on it but she holds it up when shes standing still     .. I promised her that I woudl never hurt her and then I go and do this to her... She deserves a better Mom than me

Accidents happen, they make us a better Mum and more careful in the future.

I left one day to get my nails done for my Great Uncle's 100th birthday party. I got home to the ex and his "friend."

His "friend" didn't like hearing the tiels so he had been hitting the cage with his belt for the last 90 minutes!!!! :x

Unix, who hates being held came right out to me. I cuddled her and found that her back little toe was bleeding. I dropped everything and tried to get the bleeding to stop. I called the vet and they had to cartarize the wound. Turns out the whole tip of the toe was gone, nail and all.

I was LIVID! Banned the person from the house, missed the birthday party and almost ruined a good dress with blood. I didn't realise it was there for hours.

Even had to use a collar on her because she was chewing the wound. I felt horrible, and still do whenever I see her toe.

A few years later, she got a toe stuck in a clothes pin I was using to hold millet on the cage. She got it in the metal portion, not the wood section. I learned my lesson with using those!

How is Rosie doing today besides the toe?

humans & tiels

Postby bostonbudgie on Thu May 24, 2007 8:04 am

Hopefully everyone's tiels are Ok. Six,years old I had two iguanas. For some reason one of my budgies liked to go in the cage with them . He would sit on their head and "groom " them . They were both pretty mellow.I thought it was cute and funny until one day... I turned my head and the budgie was in the iguanas mouth. He was screaming and blood was everywhere. The iguana pinched a blood feather. It was awful I was so pissed at myself for allowing this to happen. I rushed the budgie to the emergency vet (it was 7:00pm on a friday)everything turned out OK. I was inexperienced and foolish. I never let the bird near the lizards again. Stupidity isn't described as making a mistake. It is described as such if we continue to repeat the same mistakes.
Rosie don't be so hard on yourself. Just keep the teil away from the phone . They are nosey (but cute) birds. :-)
And Christie, kick the $%^& out of your ex's "friend" .She/he sounds like a real loser"

We love them

Postby Diego's Mom, Lisa on Thu May 24, 2007 8:37 am

If there was any lasting damage, I would worry. But if it was just an accident, your baby will forgive you. It happens sometimes. I feel so bad when I turn around too quick and kick the puppy. She yelps, I say I am sorry, and it is over. I think it might hurt or scare them for a minute, but after that, I hope all is forgotten.

We all love our pets so much we hate to hurt them. Just give a few extra kisses and all will be forgiven!!!

Yeah rosiesmommy, accidents happen-----I know it makes you feel really bad. I haven't really had anything like these happen to me, only one time I did have the birds flying around and woody was on the floor and I never saw him there and when I did it just scared the hell out of me because I could have stepped on him! He was really getting very close to my feet and I was so busy trying to make sure boss doesn't get another bloody nose, that I never noticed him there on the floor. Thank god I saw him there when I did! Just take good care of your girl and give her lots of love like you do and that is the best you can do!

I wont let anyone back into my house if they upset or disaprove of my birds. Its theyre house and if you have a problem...GOODBYE. I dont invite my friends over any more because theyre little brat (10 years old) walked up to the cage and screamed at my birds and then poked at them with a stick she brought in from outside. her mother said nothing to her. I was upset and told her to stop, get out of the bird room and she just laughed at me and said your not my mother. I told her its a good thing Im not coz I would beat your ***! I had to gaurd my babies the whole time they were visiting and that was the last time. We go to theyre house but they dont come to mine anymore. This is the same little brat who I have yelled at for kicking theyre dog for no reason. Again the mother says nothing...we dont go there too much anymore. I think only bird people understand bird people, we all love our babies and are fiercely protective of them.

Do NOT beat yourself up!! You a GREAT birdie mom!!! We have ALL done something at one time or another that hurt, scared or startled our bird or pet.
When I first got Annie she had chewed off her tail feathers and wings. Poor thing didn't have any balance. So what did I do!!!? Stupid me let her sit on my shoulder, I walked into the kitchen (which has porcelin floors) and down she went!!! Hit the floor with a bop, bit her tonge and I SWORE she was going to bleed to death. We rushed her to the emergency vet clinic and, boy did we luck out, the Avian vet was on call that night. Not only am I lucky enough to have and Emergency Animal Clinic that's open 24/7 but to have an Avian Vet there!?!?!? OMG.
Anyway, she lived, I learned and life goes on. She forgave me, kisses me and loves me ALMOST as much as I love her. :D

Birdbabe!!! I know how you feel. I have never had anything like that happen before, but I would be the same way. I never claim to be the head of household in my home. My husband is not either. Casper is!!! If she doesn't like something, we change it. The day we took her home, out lives changed. They changed to fit her needs. That is how you are with your tiel. They are very demanding and you accept this.

That is why we all make such good parents to them!

Rosie's mom, don't be so hard on yourself... these things happen, to everyone, really. I am sure that at some point, most of us have almost stepped on our birdies accidently or something similar. Really, this happens with human parents too... as well as siblings... (in my case, it was the brother and sisters that did most of the damage), but just for comparison, once my mom accidetly ran over my sister's foot (yes, with a car), my siblings (who were suppose to be supervising me...) nearly let me drown when I was... say... 2 or 3 (making my oldest sister 14 or 15). That doesn't mean that they are horrible people, but accidents happen, and we can't always prevent them. I definately agree with BostonBudgie.

Thank you guys!! Thank god today she is feeling better and shes using her little foot like normal so I didn't take her back into the dr. Last night the girl said that if she was using it like normal today and there was no swelling or color change that she probably didn't need to go in.. SO I didn't take her in.. I feel so bad. And my poor little angel she was letting me cuddle her today and she was all trusting :(.. I love her so much.

Now with the other issue......
