Getting Misi to eat...

Postby LisaAnn72 on Mon May 21, 2007 3:04 pm

It was recommended to try baby food for Misi, since she is not eating much. I got a chicken one and a beef one. Didn't mean to get the beef, meant to get the turkey.

No go for Misi. Turned her nose up at it. She doesn't like people food other than granola/chippy type stuff. Won't eat eggs. :?

Has anyone had any luck with a certain kind or flavor of baby food that your bird has eaten? Or another kinda food that finicky birds might go for to get some nutrition in them???

Lisa, what did the vet have to say? Most birds won't eat baby food, I gave up trying.

Please, if you can't get to your vet you were trying, call another, she really needs to get in.

I think you seen my post in the other thread. You right about the baby food. She doesnt' like it. I've got her avicakes and a millet sprig along with her water and normal food in close proximity to her.

As I mentioned before, try rice. Also try wheat bread (Bubba seems to like 12 Gran bread) Maybe try hunny treats (at most pet stores)... vet told me when the birdie is sick, it is best to worry about getting something in him (or her in your case) it doesn't need to be the healthiest, just fill her belly. Maybe try making birdie bread, to try to get some nutrition... chop up veggies to put the mix.... you can find recipies online--cockatiel cottage. Keep the millet coming too, again if you are concerned about vitamins, ask your vet if you should sprinkle some vitamins in/on her food and/or water. Bubba has really taken a liking to chicken recently, maybe try that too. Of course hand feeding her is also helpful, when Bubba wasn't eating, that is how I got him to eat some things. Hope this can help... try a little bit of anything and everything, new things even that you haven't tried before that she may take a liking to, along with her favorites, that is.

Good Luck,

Jackie

Sweet potato baby food is normally recommended...

Most of my birds ate veggies... but it wasn't until I introduced a mixture of cooked rice, veggies (fresh and frozen) and cooked 15 bean soup (minus packet) did they even decide they loved it! Most people actually tend to have good success with this simple recipe (to make however you want using at least 5 different types of veggies and maybe some fruits added in before feeding).

Otherwise, try various chopped veggies in corn bread, or even sprouted seeds.

when ours was sick she went for the peaches , bananas ,pears, applesause without cinnanomon(SP) , and most other fruits. She also liked the peas and the carrots , and vegies. She also liked toast cut to small pieces for her . I also tried mixing up some birdy formula warm not hot and spoon fed her she did well with that too but she may have been one of the few that liked it . We used gerber foods .. :)
