My flock has found a new "toy" that will occupy them for hours at a time, and it's safe too. Because of Missy's nosiness, she discovered a bread bag contains stuff good to eat The routine is now, give them either a bread bag with some whole wheat bread that is several days old, and let 'em go to town. It also works with an el-cheapo ziplock sandwich bag. Put a slice in and you have an instant toy they will chew at and get the bread out. I watched them, and don't know how they do it, but they can punch a pair of holes in the bag and somehow pinch out a bite of bread. After about an hour, the bag looks somewhat like runny pantyhose or stockings

I'm sure glad my gang doesn't like those expensive toys from the store.. have you checked prices on that stuff lately? Above $10 for most.

Won't they eat the plastic too though? I always yell at Bubba when he finds plastic bags that may be sitting on the floor for one reason or another. Can they distinguish between what they should and should not eat?

Sherwin loves plastic bags only because he's in love with food and he knows that some of his food/treats come in plastic bags. He doesn't bite holes in the bags buy he will sing to them. It's funny to watch him in action....he sings to the bag and then he will spend a minute or two re-positioning the bag and then will start singing to it again. So - yes...a bag will occupy him for a while.

Casper loves plastic, especially shopping bags. She does bite holes in them so I have to watch her that she doesn't eat it. I think she has a plastic addiction because the second she sees me opening a package of something, she comes running over. So I have to let her bite it!!!

Usually what I do is cut it so it isn't big enough for her to get caught or suffocate!!! And I never let her have that without supervision.

Just wanted to add that in there...

I've looked very closely at my gang, and no, they don't eat the plastic at all. You might find a tiny little piece now and then, but if they bite it and get it in their mouth, they just chew on it and spit it out, much the same way as paper.

Noel, I can just hear Sherwin singing to the plastic bag.. I'll bet that is a real hoot. Maybe you can record it on your cell phone and dump to your computer?

Actually I have a clip of him whistling to Cheerios online through You Tube. The quality of the clip is not the greatest....I recorded it on a digital camera so the sound is a bit slower that the video. Here is the location:

Also - when Sherwin whistles, it's his own made up tunes so don't expect to recognize what he's whistling!

That is just about how I envisioned him singing. I guess that's the first time I've seen him too.. did I miss something somewhere along the way ?? (Remember I'm an older lad, and memory is not my best trait) !

He's just as sweet sounding and looking as I figured he'd be. Almost looks a bit shy in the recording. I had to let Emi watch him too.. she got a kick out of him

That was just soo stinkin' cute!!! Loved it!

He acts shy when he whistles his tunes....not sure why he does that. He bends his neck and tucks his head against whatever he whistles to.
