Frustrated.....

Postby heather21474 on Tue Mar 20, 2007 2:53 pm

Ok I'm a newbie here but figured that it's worth a shot to post and see if I can get some answers/advice..

I have two tiels a boy and a girl and they were giving all the tell tale signs of a mating couple to even include the actual act of mating....so I purchased a tiel nesting box and attached it to the cage. They have cautiously inspected the outside but have yet to get in. It's been about a week and a half and seems like ever since I've put the nesting box that they have lost interest in mating...they do still act as a couple though(can't leave each other's side, etc) and he still sings to her but everything else has stopped....did I "ruin' it by attaching the box? I did eveything I was supposed to do....i think...HELP!!!!
Thanks in advance

What size nesting box? How old is the pair? Diet? Amount of light they get each day?

If they are old enough it may be that they need more time.... but just to let you know, just because they mate doesn't mean that they will lay eggs.

The box is 12x12x12, I have them on a fresh fruit and seed diet and they get about 12 to 14 hours of daylight...I have plenty of water in the cage also...

She was laying before I put the male in with her....?

I don't have a pair, but I would think that a change in their environment will effect their courtship. They may be acting like a young couple in love going through the act of mating but not actually mating

Give them time to get used to seeing the box, inspecting the box so they feel secure to raise a family. I think they are being cautious and just need some time to get used to the box.
