Sherwin's Mom wrote:Welcome!! It always does my heart good to hear about people adopting and loving disabled animals! When I adopted my tiel I was told his back toes were deformed and he would not be able to fully grip. He still can't grip onto things tightly but he has become much stronger! There are also several of us who can relate to losing one of our babies! Don't feel alone in that respect. I lost my female back in January of 2006 and adopted Sherwin in February.....similar to your story! Love the pictures of your babies...they are adorable! Glad you're here!

Thank you. I'm sorry for your loss as well. Good to be here.

-Jackie (By the way... the people in my life that love me most call me Jack--my parents, brother, boyfriend, and closest friends... keep that in mind with your little Jack, even though she is a girl :D )

Danny has helped a bunch to heal it, thanks. I still call Jack, Jack she seems to like it. :)

    Loss

Casper helped to heal my heart after Diego died. It was the best thing to go out and get another one. You can't help but get into a good mood when they beg to be picked up and have their head scratched!

I was wondering why Danny never tried to sing like a male yet. She sure is vocal for a girl though. I suspect she is older then I was told too nearing 6 months. At least she won't lose her lovely pearls.

Never give up hope. I am proud of the fact that my girl does talk, She says "I love you." And "Pretty Bird" and wolf whistles, though she doesn't sing. I suspect that is because she's around us humans and not other, more experienced tiel singers. (Or she's a male, and I don't know that yet, lol)

I'm not trying to give up, in fact Danny is showing both female traits and male traits behavior wise, so it has thrown me for a loop in trying to figure her or him out. But I know for sure that he/she is in first molt right now so it will be a couple of more months and then I will know for sure I think.

I also figured out that Danny is a nutty bird in another way. I had the cage turned so that around 8 inches were where she/he could look outside, but it was upsetting her/him and causing big wings constantly throughout the day plus loads of screaming. I just figured out the other day it was the outdoor wild birds upsetting him/her, so I turned the cage the other direction and most of those issues are now gone. Yeah big wings ae still done off and on throughout the day but not all day long, and the screaming is now only when someone walks into the room. Danny is also beak banging at times on the side of the cage and last night on my finger. I have also found out that I cannot keep a mirror in Danny's cage because Danny will constantly climb all over it and is very agressive with the other image of a bird, whereas Jack now has the mirror and totally ignores it.

    Tiels

Postby Diego's Mom, Lisa on Mon Mar 19, 2007 10:38 am

Casper just started singing about a month ago. We have had her for about 6 months now. She did the wolf whistle once, but have not heard it again since. She usually sings when we are not in the room. I will be around the corner in the kitchen or in the bedroom and she will start singing. We have 2 lovebirds that are constantly chirping, so she probably picked it up from them.

No words yet, but the singing is hilarious!!! Such an joy to have her signing now. I just love it. :D

Sounds wonderful! I can hardly wait to hear some other things from my birds then screeching and loud chirps. The warbling Danny does is too cute though it is not done that often.
