Flight suit

Postby bubbabird85 on Tue Mar 13, 2007 5:25 pm

So I FINALLY got Bubba into his flight suit... rather impossible, but we got him into it! It is unseasonably warm here in ohio... a wopping 65+ degrees, so I took the baby out in his new suit, and dispite him picking at the straps, he was okay. He clicked a bit and made some of his cute noises :). I am so happy I could finally get him into it!! It seems s much more difficult with a fully flighted bird. Now I am trying to distract him as he gets used to it... bribing him with millet while he has it on. THat is working okay, but hopefully it will get better. He is preening like crazy too--his feathers CAN"T be messed up... he is such a drama queen.

You are SUCH a good parront. I'm impressed with your determination to get that bird outside. Great going!

Thanks :) He needed it... he has been cooped up in my apartment since fall--it starts to get cold here in october... a big ohio joke is that we need to fit Halloween costumes so they will fit over snow suits... and it is so true! I felt much more comfortable taking him outside in the flight suit than his old harness... he can't wiggle out of this one :D

I know!! He has been put in the harness before...though not to go outside since he escaped... only used to go to the vet... he has been mainly focused on chewing on it (it has lots of shiny parts). I tried to get a picture yesterday, but my camera was out of batteries!! I'll try to get one soon though :)

That is cute :D. He is such a sweet looking baby! thanks for sharing the pic! He was behaving like Bubba... how long til he stoppe chewing on his straps! Did you have problems getting it on? Bubba is Fully flighted, so it was hard. How about Tweety?

Thank you!

Tweety is fully fighted too. In the beginning I had a harder time, but now I find it easy to put the suit on.

Unless he is outside, Tweety will chew on the suit. He likes how it feels in his beak. I don't think he will ever grow out of it.

My vet told me many years ago that the harness feels like a snake wrapping around them and that they never "get used to it." I've always preferred taking mine outside in a cage.

Very good advice! It is true that some birds just don't like it and never will.

Going outside, no matter in what safe form, should be a treat, not torture.
