Sam,

I might take you up on your offer for some direction later!! I'm going to talk to my dad about what you suggested and see what he can do. He use to work on navy planes, so doing a little metal working is not too bad for him lol, but I just want to make sure I use something that will be safe for my little baby :) I'll look for some non-lead or silver to do the welding with, but do you think that automotive paint will be okay for the bird?

I will also look into the manufacturer, though I don't think I will have much luck there... saving for a new cage is not much of an option right now, but maybe in a few years...

Thanks everyone for all of your suggestions! I really appreciate all of your help :). After my e-bay experience, it is good to know that there are still some kind people in this world!

Jackie,

If your dad was in the Navy, he can fix it! In short, all that is needed is to clean the old finish off down to bare metal in an area just enough to solder to at the joint. Then, using lead free solder, heat it enough to make the solder flow into the joint, let cool a couple of minutes, wipe down with some acetone to remove the flux, prime and paint. You must use a metal primer or the paint won't stick. Even one of the automobile touch-up bottles like fingernail polish would be enough to recover it, and yes, the paint would be safe because it hardens to almost like porcelan, especially if it's an acrylic lacquer or even an acrylic enamel. The offer still goes if/when you get ready.
