Okay I looked really closely at the pic of the cage I am getting and I don't think a bird would be able to climb the bottom of the legs, there is nothing horizontal for them to hang onto near the bottom, not V shaped either. Not straight legs, but from the pic they seem ok. I will check that out closer though when I get it.

I wouldn't trust the cage stand to be honest... It may be just my personal opinion, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

As for the cage that you bought, looking at the legs, they are split... not "V" shaped, however it has circles, wich create "v" shapes, so to speak.... maybe more like a check-mark. and because of the style of the legs overall, I just don't care for them.

Looking at the cages at Petco, they also have the scrollwork... looked more closely at Tomi Girls cage, and it too has small gaps which could be great for capturing toes or toenails... the cage size itself is good, but the cage itself isn't... but hopefully I'll be able to change things soon!

Wow, all your cages are so big. My poor Rosie when I got her I got the cage that said it was a Cockatiel cage at Pet's Mart. It's so small compare to all your cages but she seems to love it. Now that shes more used to us she is hardly ever IN her cage shes always ON her cage sliding down the pitched roof or hanging out in her little playpen.

This is a pic I got of her when she first started standing in the door looking out. Now she don't stand there she gets right out as soon as she eats Breakfast in the mornings. She usually is only in her cage to sleep and eat. She will go in for short perids throughout the day but spends most of her time outside.

That's why I hate petstores.... at least one of the reasons... they sell a lot of inadequate sized cages... or cages that are inadequately shaped... birds need room to fly and to spread their wings... which is why I always take Tomi Girl out of her cage to fly around the room, and I let the budgies out of their cage to fly if they want for a few minutes each day.... not so on the cockatiel family or the bourkes, but I have future plans to turn my bedroom (original one!) into an inside aviary, and have a few birds (max) and myself in the smaller room.

Even if your bird is in a cage only to eat and sleep, what if something were to change in the future? Forcing them to be in the cage for hours at a time? Or you have to board them because your on vacation???

These are all things that need to be taken into consideration. I use to think that a small cage is fine, if the bird lived most of its day OUT of the cage and only went in there to sleep or eat... but if you think about it.... vacations? emergencies? change in jobs? change in family living? anything could change how long your bird may have to live in its cage. Which is why I stress to get the biggest cage that you can afford... and if it's not that good of a cage, save up until you can get a better cage! It WILL be worth it in the end!

As for my cages? Out of all the current ones I own, I haven't bought any.... except for the flight cage that was $100 and I haven't set it up yet.... it's ready to be set up, but I'd rather have the new occupant(s) get used to it first before she goes back to cage living again. To be honest though, the cage was a gift, as a friend actually bought it for me. All my money goes to the birds, in food, toys, and anything else they may need.... thus it's not particularly easy for me to save up money... and when I do, I end up spending it on something REALLY expensive (one the birds) even though in the end it was pointless (last time it was a vet visit.... meds didn't help... but it cost about $200... which I was saving up for a cage.... or rather an aviary to build)....

mfids, I realize that the legs of that cage stand are split and have circles, BUT if you look, the circles are high up and nothing to grab onto at the bottom to climb up there. The cage itself has no scrolling on it or anything, the cage is great, and like I said----my bird never goes anywhere while out of his cage without me right behind him anyway!

The cage itself is fine... but point being, a bird CAN climb those legs if they want and can figure out how to.... all it may take is a little jump into the "sky" even if they are clipped. Tiels may not be that strong when it comes to climbing things like legs... but it can be done, and I'm only telling you to be cautious, especially since tiels are clumsy and curious creatures.

Yes, of course I will be cautious-----thanks for bringing my attention to those legs of the cage stand-----I will check them out thoroughly before using the stand. For now my bird usually stays right with me when out, so it poses no danger to him, but I am guessing things in the future could change with him, and he may start to want to explore more and wander from me. Also I plan on getting another tiel over the summer, so for right now the stand would not be dangerous no matter what kind it was-----but maybe in the future-----for now I will probably keep the stand on it and I could always try to cover over those circles somehow, like maybe wrap some kind a material around those legs so nothing can get into those cracks, right? ok but then his little claws could get stuck in that, so ok what if I covered it all up with paper? he couldn't climb that!

Maybe if you could find something to cover the legs with, that would definitely make it safer! Weather it be paper, or rope or otherwise... something safe no doubt....

Well, I finally got pics uploaded of the other cage that I have and plan on using.... I only stuck two perches in there for Noel and Casey to sit on so as to give a rough estimate of size of these cages... They are not actually living in it yet (don't know if Casey will or not, even though she's best buds with Noel). They will move in once they first get used to the cage, and two when I get it set up for them.... I already have dishes to go in (not the ones I wanted but they will work) and need to get some perches cleaned up to put in there.... plus anything else...

The first is a picture of the ENTIRE cage, minus the front wheels (you can sorta see the front left wheel but right one is not in the pic)....
Image

Here's just the cage itself (and it DOES come with a grate for inside... but I wont be using it because of Noel)
Image

And just a closeup of the top portion of the cage with both doors open....

I already posted it, but here's the specs on the cage....

This cage was originally sold by http://www.sugar-gliders.com/glider-cages-list.htm

And I bought brand new (well it was in box for something like 3-6 months) for $100.

I like the cage-- it is nearly exactly like bubba's, but with a better lock and a plastic bottom instead of metal. :)

nice cage! yeah I will definitely look into covering those legs with something. Something he can't get his claws stuck in, something more on the slippery side, any suggestions? paper would be good as long as no one chews it off! lol

A metal bottom might be better...

Thinking about the legs, maybe look into a cloth cover??? Something that will fit each leg, and will either zip up on the inside, or velco? That way, if it gets dirty, you can clean it?

Here are my two cages. I have 1 tiel in each. The white one contains my disabled tiel, and the blue one contains my new baby tiel. I am in the process of saving for a new cage for my disabled tiel, although she seems happy enough with the one she is in.

Thank you. Oh I forgot to list the brand. The blue one is an A & E cage. I bought it on ebay for $99.99 with free shipping. The other one I don't know the brand of I bought it from my sister.
