As Paca suggests, the breeder chat would be good, but I can tell you this much; I have a 7 year old male that had no clue about the mating act itself, even though he's had another female. No vent/vent contact but he tries. I don't know how the male and female actually figure out they must make vent/vent contact, or very close to fertilize eggs. I suppose if you have an experienced male that would be good, but if like mine who are still trying to figure out what and how to do it correctly, it might take some time, or as one breeder mentioned, plucking the feathers around the vent on the female. Somehow in nature, it all works out for the best, so I don't claim to know doodley about breeding, but I know what it takes to get fertilized eggs.
