Breeding Help

Postby Loren12982 on Sun Feb 25, 2007 7:06 pm

I have four birds ..two pairs up for breeding right now. Today I saw my clear pied mating with my WF pearl pied. and he was mating with her right wing .. he didn't even make it to where he was supposed to. I have had one instance in the past with breeding and got eggs but none of them were fertile. Do you think he will get the hang of it on his own? I am worried I will get eggs that are not fertile again. Any advice anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Try posting on the breeder chat. This forum is for pet tiel parronts, so our breeding knowledge is secondary at best.

As Paca suggests, the breeder chat would be good, but I can tell you this much; I have a 7 year old male that had no clue about the mating act itself, even though he's had another female. No vent/vent contact but he tries. I don't know how the male and female actually figure out they must make vent/vent contact, or very close to fertilize eggs. I suppose if you have an experienced male that would be good, but if like mine who are still trying to figure out what and how to do it correctly, it might take some time, or as one breeder mentioned, plucking the feathers around the vent on the female. Somehow in nature, it all works out for the best, so I don't claim to know doodley about breeding, but I know what it takes to get fertilized eggs.
