Sunshie & Baby

Postby Bijou on Thu Feb 22, 2007 11:11 am

Hello

I am new to this site but I have found some of the information great. I am Canadian and I have two cockatiels. I have a male named Baby who is almost two a pied and a female named Sunshine a yellow lutino who is almost eleven months old.

I have been told that due to the difference in ages, my two cockateils no way will breed. Right now baby has somewhat accepted sunshine but still likes to give chase to her. He will nip her feet to make her move or if they are both out of the cage and Sunshine goes to where Baby has gone, Baby will chase her away. They have been together for about three months. I don't want to breed them this year at all due to the fact I think my female is too young. I would like to breed them in the future but I am not sure if this is possible. I was wondering if anyone out there has any helpful information that I could have.

Also at last vet check up Baby weighed in at 99.5 grams and Sunshine weighed in at 91 grams. The vet at this time informed me that he was pretty sure that Sunshine was male but I have had Sunshine DNA test three times now and all three times the DNA test has come back female.

I would certainly appreciate any helpful information and I would like to thank anyone in advance that can offer this

PS by the way bijou is the name of my dog I had to include my dog somehow

you're right - sunshine is way to youg to mate. The yougest should be 18 months. If they are male and female, and bond I am sure they will mate.

As far as I know (haven't done the breeding stuff) if one of them is bonded to you - perhaps Baby, then they may not breed. Just remember most of the times if they do breed and bond to each other they may pull away from you because they would rather be with each other.

Check out the breeder chat board for more info - they know what the details are since that's what they do.
