Anyone find that lights are fascinating to your tiel? Casper looks up at the recessed lights in the ceiling all the time. She turns her little head sideways and stares at the lights.

She also loves to watch reflections on the ceiling. If you watch reflects up there, she will watch it where ever it goes.

Mine stares at the kitchen light all the time, but it's because he's a bit leery of it. It's a long, covered light fixture and over the summer a bug got up in the light and Sherwin noticed the bug's image inside the light. It freaked him out and he has not forgotten that! He's afraid of shadows too, but seems to be getting better with that. I know this isn't really a light issue, but he likes the look of cartoons and will fixate on Sponge Bob. Haha

I just installed a full spectrum light fixture over the kids cages, and I see most of them looking up at the lights when they are off. I turn them on about 9 or 10 am, similar to when the sun would be higher in the sky. I know they also look at some suncatcher hummingbirds my wife has hanging on the patio door, as well as reflected light from other sources. The eye of a bird sees much beyond the visible light spectrum we see, and into the low end of the ultra violet light spectrum. There is a gland that surrounds the eye that connects directly with the brain and pituitary gland that controls some of their circadian clock functions. Light should be a good thing, even if entertaining.

Noel - I remember you mentioning Sherwin loving Sponge Bob. Isn't that just the funniest thing??? Casper is still infatuated with my Nintendo DS. It is funny. Even when I shut if off and the screen is dark, she sits there right next to it. I am wondering if it is because I am giving my attention to something else besides her or if it is because she loves to huddle up close to something when she sleeps.

That is interesting about the suncatchers, Sam. Kind of the same situation as with Casper. That light moving around catches their eye.

And Noel, I wonder if Casper is more fascinated with the lights or if it is that they scare her a bit, like you said with Sherwin.

That's interesting Sam. I have often wondered if they see the same things we see or if it's different. He does like very bright rooms. My bathroom will blind you but he loves the light. It's funny to see....he bows up and does the heart wings when we enter the bathroom typically for his shower.

I wonder if the Sponge Bob fixation has to do with the bright colors?? Maybe based on what Sam said, they see something that attracts them in the cartoons or Nintendo! Hmmmmm.

We are onto something!!!
Maybe we should just ask them!!
