I have always had food available for the kids 24/7, but am now curious if perhaps it might be better to have selected feeding times. Several articles I've read indicate better feeding habits if food is not available all the time.

My birds always have some kind of food available. If I go out and have an accident or can't get home, I don't have to worry about my birds starving.
On another board a man left for work in the morning. There was a train accident that spilled some toxic chemical. They would not let him in to his house and birds. Finally a friend got him in to his birds after they were alone for 2 or 3 days. He took his birds out with him. If they had not had plenty of food they might not be with him today.
You never know what might happen.

My birds have seed and pellets all day, from breakfast until bedtime. They often have leaves of fresh greens during the day too. They have fresh vegetables, greens, and a little fruit for 2-3 hours before bedtime. While they are sleeping, they have only their water bowls.

Since your poll doesn't specify this schedule, I haven't voted.

I leave some seed and pellets all day - she grazes ALL DAY!! I also give her a leaf of kale through the cage bars and a dish of veggie slaw in the morning. In the evening she gets some Beak Apetit, cooked veggies and maybe some hard boiled egg. Late night a snack of seed or millet before bedtime.

In her sleep cage there is water and some food which she rarely eats.

Pellets and water available all the time, treats usually fed in afternoon or evening, fresh foods given at evening and/or night when we eat dinner (before treats) and when we are sitting around relaxing at night. This is a general schedule... but not always followed exactly, just how I usually feed him around my food schedule.

Bubba is a healthy and happy bird, weight has fluctuated between 95-100 grams (he actually gained some weight after switching to pellets) good, according to my vet, for an adult bird (10 years). Along with some other posters, I do agree that their staple food, whether pellets or seed, should be available all the time just in case something unexpected happens... moreover, this means if I decide I need to stop at the store, the library, or want grab a cup of coffee with friends I don't need to worry about my baby being hungry and rushing home to him.

Same here, I keep pellets and seed mix in his cage at all times so he can eat whenever he's hungry. My bird is healthy and happy as well, but he is a tad on the small side, needs to put on a few grams! so the more he eats, the better! I also keep a good size bowl of water in there for him at all times to take a bath, and his water bottles, two of them.

Mine has food 24/7 in the form of pellets and an organic seed mixture. I give him veggies and other food items at dinner time. If he was the type that gorged himself, I would restrict the amount of food left during the day.
