Any harn in a computer screen Re: Cockatiel's eyes?

Postby flemishe on Sun Jan 07, 2007 9:26 pm

I've heard that a computer screen can be harmful to a bird's eyes due to the refresh rate. Maybe that only applies to TVs, I'm not sure. In any case, is there truth to this? I hold my tiel most of the time when I am on my computer since he is located in my office.

Thanks for any help!

Not that I've heard / read about flemishe, but I suppose anything is possible. I'm going to agree with babyluv12 on this one!!

My tiels love waddling around the desk while I'm working - all the buttons are great, the little lights on the keyboard, the flash in the mouse and they love chasing the arrow around the bottom of the screen!! Makes for a fun and exciting playtime!! Then again, this is only when I pay the bills at the end of the month ... otherwise, on normal days when I'm just checking my emails and birdy websites they are happy to play on their playgym!! :D

Most monitors of the CRT genre have an electrostatic shield in front of the picture tube. Years ago, monitors *could* give you eye strain, and if you sat close enough to them, you would get some very mimimal electromagnetic radiation. I don't think any monitor in the past 10 years has been without one, maybe longer than that. LCD, Plasma, and other solid state monitors do not emit any type of electromagnetic energy in sufficient quantities to harm anything.
