I wouldn't trust anything else without an avian vet's recommendation, but I'm hoping you find something that helps get your bird back into good shape without stressing him anymore unduly.

I know it sounds a little strange, but my vet okayed it... Bubba gets really dry feet sometimes, and to treat them, I will put olive oil on his feet. Sometimes he gets it on his breast, but it comes off in time (though this is not a lot of oil) between his preening and his showers with me, the oil comes off soon enough.

Blue Dawn is what most vets use when there's something greasy on a bird's feathers. This is veggie oil, though, so there shouldn't be a problem with your baby preening it off unless something gets stuck to them that he shouldn't eat.
