I'm sorry I can't say she's improving, as of this morning, she is still losing weight. Dry weight was 82 grams, but her evening weight was 88 grams. She dropped 1 gram from yesterdays dry morning weight. Talked to one of the vets today, and he's at a loss to why the continued weight loss, so we started kicking around possibilities. Several things came up, thyroid, diabetes, and few others. The odd part is she is still eating like a pig, active as any of the others, and pooping just as normal as anybody else. Her normal vet is out till this coming Monday, but if no improvement by then, guess we'll have to go the complete panel route. Big problem is not being able to draw enough blood for the whole panel, and will have to pick and choose the most likely problem areas. Her keel feels like the back edge of a knife. She's really lost a lot of muscle. I just hope I can keep enough calories in her till Monday, as this other vet is not my favorite choice for sticks.

I'm very sorry to hear this. Have you given any thought to having your vet talk with Dr Scott Echols in Austin, Texas about mycobacterium? I'm assuming they've already ruled out avian gastric yeast (formerly megabacteria)? Sorry if I'm forgetting the details of your earlier posts. Busy times lately and I'm scattered. But hoping hard for Ginger to do some fast healing.

Might seem like a silly qestion but is she molting (loosing feathers). if she has lost them and new one has not grown back yet it could explain the weight loss.

I've got my fingers crossed this morning. Ginger actually either came up 2 grams, or she did not lose as much as previous nights. Dry weight this morning was 84 grams vs. 88 grams last night. Hopefully, the Nutri-cal is helping hold her weight, but that stuff is horrible to give and it tastes horrible too. (I tasted it). It has the consistency of cold molasses, and I have to dose her 3-4 times a day to get the 1cc required in her. Can't just squirt and be done either. Have to let her actually swallow it for fear of choking her. Real PITA.

No, I've not mentioned any other vet to Dr. Walker, but when I see him again if things have not improved for the better with steady weight gain, I am going to ask him if he would consult with another vet. That would be a rather touchy subject, and not sure how he would react. Hopefully, I won't have to go that route, but I have given it thought. The sensitivity tests revealed some other "bugs" aside from the staph infection, and fortunately, all are sensitive to the Baytril. Today is day 7 on the meds, so there *should* be little left of the bacteria, but I'll continue the meds for the remainder of the treatment (14 days) or till he tells me to stop. These coag negative bacteria are sometimes difficult to kill off with some drugs, but there was a list of maybe 8 different compounds that would work. Don't recall all of them, but some I've never even heard of.

Theo, she's not molting -- I wish that were all it was.

Awww, I hope she gets better soon! It's good she still seems happy and hungry and normal, so maybe whatever it is isn't making her uncomfortable. At least while you are waiting, you have that
