Postby villegas_271 on Fri Dec 15, 2006 8:27 am

i`m not selling theses birds i`m looking to see who will help them , i walk into a pet shop in goodland ks, asked the person there, where are your birds , he walks to the back of the store and turns on a light and in a corner there where 5 cages 2 cages of cockatiels, 1 of keets and 1 of a pair of doves an last a pair of dyh amazons he was gonna walk away when i said don`t you think it`s to cold in here for them , laughs and says yea i`ll turn up the heat,he then walk away and my children and i walk up to the cages to look , my heart hurt, the amazon had a hanging wing she was shaking i felt like i could feel her pain,
the water bowl was a soup of poop the cage had at least a month of dry poop all over, yet the keets where clean and so where the doves but the 2 cages of tiels where no better poop soup to drink no food and in 1 cage you could see blood on a few of them being there was 4 in 1 cage and 3 in the other way to small, i asked the person there why haven`t you taken care of the amazon , he replied oh where took her to the vet but there`s nothing we can do for her..... bull crap!!!!
then i asked him and when do you all clean and feed the tiel
his reply oh i don`t mess with them ,,(yea it shows)
they are selling the amazon 600.00 each and the tiels at 70.00
i don`t know who to look to for help in Kansas i can`t buy them
i do not have that kind of money , and please believe me i`m not a scam this is all true can anyone help them out ?
just a mother and bird lover in Kansas.

Please, please, report the shop to the local animal shelter, and if there is none, try the local law enforcement department. There are laws against cruelty to animals, and it sounds like you have found a case. Please give us the name of the store, location, etc., so others will be able to help as well. I'm in GA, so I can't do anything from here, but I'm sure someone closer by might be able to give assistance.

Anyone who mistreats an animal should never be allowed to have any kind of animal ever again....

Call the 800 # in this site's contact info and see what they can tell you about enforcement way out there in Goodland: http://www.heartofamericahs.org/

You might have a better effect on the poor birds by vounteering to work with them for long enough to educate the staff, teach them there's more profit in healthy birds than dead ones.

Healthy birds do best in temperatures considerably cooler than we like in our homes, but sick ones need more warmth than we want around us. Heat lamps should be used on babies and any sickly bird, but with room in the cage for the bird to move to a cooler corner.

    Good luck, Paca

    Birds need help

Postby Diego's Mom, Lisa on Fri Dec 15, 2006 10:07 am

That is just so terrible. How can anyone do that to such helpless creatures? That makes me so mad.

I lived in a small town in Massachusetts and we had a dog officer in town. I know it sounds strange, but maybe try calling them. Or a town official or someone. I could not let that go.

I might even take some photos if you can do it without someone seeing you.

That is a shame. Just breaks my heart to know that anyone could be do heartless.

Please let us know if anything works.

    Birds Need Help

Postby Diego's Mom, Lisa on Fri Dec 15, 2006 3:23 pm

And also, wouldn't be a good idea to buy any birds from this place. Buying them might save THOSE birds, but it will put money in his pocket to buy more that he will abuse just the same way.

These animals need to be confiscated, not bought. My heart breaks to hear of something like this. What a loser that guy is and also the Owner.
