Bath Time...Again

Postby Diego's Mom, Lisa on Sun Dec 10, 2006 8:15 pm

Sam...and others. After reading the recommendation of putting a small amount of water in the sink for bathing, I tried it this weekend. Casper didn't really like it all that much, but there was no place for her to run! So it actually worked out great. Gave her a chance to soak her little feeties and for me to give her a good bath. I was able to get under her wings a bit too. Today (Sunday) I find, there was a lot less "snow" coming off of her. I think it was a lot easier than using the spray bottle.

Thanks again for the help with bathing.

Sounds great Lisa.. I'm sure with time, Casper will eventually get to like baths.

I was in the kitchen yesterday with Gizmo, and ran some water in the sink for other purposes, and Gizmo just went into a frenzy trying to get in the water. I drained it out, cleaned the sink and ran about 3" in the bottom. He almost dove in! I let him down on my hand, and he got off, splashed around and then, I dribbled some water on his back, and he opened up his wings and was begging for more. He got totally soaked :-) Now, if the rest of them would follow suit....

My Gizmo is young and seems to enjoy the water, Where Joey will not go anywhere near it and i won't push it. He does however have a big water dish and dips his head in it.

    Bath time...

Hmmmm, so funny, I guess that Casper is just a little strange. I have never seen a bird NOT like water. But like you said, Sam, persistance. Hopefully she will enjoy it at some point like your Gizmo.

Our lovebirds SOAK themselves every time we change the water. Casper has a big enough water dish that she could actually stand in if she wanted to, but she dips her little beak in for a drink and that is it!

I guess she is a little Diva. Doesn't want to get her 'do wet!

Ok i'm stumped after my last post I put some water in the sink and placed Joey in it. I thought he would straight away fly away. yet he not only sat there but he lifted his wing inviteing me to splash water there. it was fun to watch. as I said Gizmo is not a problem I think it's his age.

    Funny!

Love the Diva comment. My female tiel was extremely picky about her feathers. She LOVED a shower and loved being blow dried even more....but you didn't dare touch her feathers after the blow dry. Well - I never dried her completely, only partially because she would preen for hours afterward. Sherwin, on the other hand, only preens when he feels like it. After a bath some of his feathers will be straight and shiny and others will be wavy.....you can tell he has not touched them. Casper will eventually get used to the water!

    Bath

Postby Diego's Mom, Lisa on Mon Dec 11, 2006 11:08 am

Oh, when she is preening, you better not go near her. I try to pat her and she squawks at me. I call her the little princess! She can use me for her perch while she is preening, but look, don't touch! I feel to used!

Sherwin sounds funny, doesn't care which way his feathers are going! A no-maintenance type of guy!

Totally like humans. He will eat and wind up with food stuck all over his beak and not even care. He thinks he looks hot. Buddie couldn't stand for anything to be on her beak. She used to wipe her beak on me...she didn't care....as long as she was clean! :D
